tremendous group you have there

the 3 favorites/keepers of the bunch for me are the:

Platona
5940
5164

the others are also a cut above just a bit out of my wheelhouse

ps love the platona avatar :)

Not trying to hijack the thread but I am curious though why there is no love for the 5159r. It has such detail and classic styling. To me, that is one is in my top 3 list of the six.

To me it's just not very attractive. Completely subjective I know! But the officer style watches seem too pocket-watchy to me. It's a style that just doesn't translate well to the wrist.
I have deep respect for a PC executed by PP, just not in this style.
Ok, I'm ready for my punishment...

I agree that Jorge has a nice balanced collection. Also like Cardstocks, though I am more into sportier watches, but its very nice.

I have a WG Smurf, getting a PP next and probably an AP, a second Rolex (Platona), and a second PP after that.
I resonate with the idea of a high quality smaller collection 4-5 vs a large toolbox of just "ok" or even above average watches.
Personally I think the WG Sub and Platona really captures the essence of Rolex sports watches with stunning PMs.

The challenge for me will be to decide on a PP or two and perhaps an AP.
I like one of each of Aquanaut and Nautilus but sooo many choices and varieties.
Also AP ROO , so many choices. Though RO is a bit easier if I keep it simple (15202 or 15400).
That would be a nice 4-5 for me over the next couple years.
2 Rolex - 2 PP - 1 AP

Awesome 6 if you ask me

Well the Daytona did get traded for a gold one (which I hated), which then got traded for an Aquanaut (which disappointed me), which got traded along with the Calatrava for the Nautilus chronograph.
Keeping the Nautilus! Also keeping a Cartier Roadster and a vintage Omega (both gifts). But there are three others for a total of six. And even though I would sell the three "others" I would probably use the money to buy a fourth watch.
I just don't see an end to having my three keepers PLUS. I'm just not sure how many the PLUS will be at any given time.
It is fun to collect different watches...
Yeah you often think you have it all figured out and BOOM big surprise, it's not the case Now I feel I have it figured out, love my 2, had 10 at one point, and am seriously thinking about which watch to get next, I want it to be a real special piece, for now the Lange Datograph perpetual in WG has the lead but I am also considering a Richard Mille of some sort, like the Yohan Blake and the Rafael Nadal ones, of course the non tourbillon as the tourbs are not in my price range, would love to get the Lange and a RM but can't see that happening at all, not undoable but I'd have to sell one of my flats in Odessa Ukraine to finance the 2, so can't see that happening at all since I have great flats there...

The 5980-1R is stunning and would be great, but I would keep the 5159, love that watch

Jorge my friend, didn't you have the SS AP diver before? You traded it for the CE? I have the CE as well and I love it, not a surprise as I have always wanted a CE watch and this one with the 44mm AP CE models is a good as it gets ceramic wise IMO

Hi

Enjoy this thread. I guess there is no end to the rainbow. A part of life's journey, though costly.
Again, very enlightening.
Thanks

Well, Jorge, I'm joining the chorus in agreeing with your analysis. I've just reduced to two and am building up to probably three which will be carefully curated, hopefully.

Currently working my way up to three, have a 5712/1A Nautilus and a 5396R annual with a brown strap. Wanting to add something a little more robust and sporty, with a bracelet. Not that happy with submariner, considering the GMT Master II (new Pepsi or Batman). any other suggestions, it would have to be on a bracelet and be able to take abuse.

Thanks for any input !!

WOW! Excellent shots - class act collection. Your pictures are simply stunning.

My answer to the original question is also a clear-cut: No. No way I will put Patek on a pedestal and convert all my watch money to this particular brand. I love/like/dislike Patek - depending on the model - and the same with other top notch brands.

So Jorge, I take it from this post that you are no longer a believer in your own gospel?

Superb shots Jorge! I got a DD40 in YG which is even more bling and intiially I was self-conscious when wearing it for a while but got use to it over time and it's now my second most worn piece.

Interesting to see how your collection evolves over time.As for me, I am not adding anything this year. Next incoming is 2017 if there is one.

For me, this year out went my Breguet 5177BR and Patek 5124G (actually still for sale on consignment at AD) and in came a Blancpain FF Bathyscaphe Chronograph (last month) and soon (2-3 weeks) a WG Day-Date 40mm. So I am happy with mysans-PP collection of four...

Jorge I followed some of your posts on another site and it was a bit enabling for me to increase my collection from 2 to 13 over three years. I purchased more than 11 but I also sold some I did not like as much as I thought I would at the time of purchase. 4-5 of my current collection are 1-4K. I have not purchased in some time (almost a year) but i have a deposit on a new release that likely won't be available until the end of the summer. This gives me time to sell a couple of pieces. So my new rule is that if i am going to buy a new piece, I have to sell 2. This will keep my number down over time but still allow me to change my collection as some of my tastes change.

I think unconsciously I have limit my expensive pieces to Patek and anything below 20k to whatever.

Me too, Currently there is nothing above my patek pieces that interest me , you would have to go all the way to a 5270g and currently thats above budget.

I feel that even though the 5960p its an awesome watch , hey I bought the same watch twice! ( i say I probably like the watch ). Its a watch that its one step above from the Annual Calendars (because is also a chrono) but falls short to the 5270g (and others). Its puts you a little closer to the goal I guess, but that didn't fly with me
