Its all supply and demand, if the watches are obtainable at retail from ADs, the premium for the after market will be very little. There do seem to be a lot of incomings here so, hopefully, the flow keeps going and folks are able to buy them from ADs.

Actually based on about 7% annual return, I normally double the price for every decade or so. For $3000 in 95, it's about $6000 in 05, and $12000 for 15. So technically $15000 is "reasonable."

LOL, ok kidding aside, nope, OP. Won't pay anything above MSRP myself.

Might because I have 2 fat boys a bluesy and no-date” so I’m only in the market for a green bezel.

This is a great observation and the rule of compound inflation does very much apply. It is only an assumption... BUT if Rolex increases prices by an average of app. 7% per year, something with a $10,000 list price today will have a $40,000 list price in app. 2040. Watches are not investments — it’s just math though.

Not that I would - but who would pay $15k for a Sub when they could buy a 'hot' gray market GMT for just a little more?

Absolute! You are very right about watch not being an investment.
As an example of how crazy the market it, Patek has been increasing the official MSRP (not grey) price at about 10% - 20% this last couple of years which I think is just plainly greedy and crazy especially considering how expensive the average MSRP price for their watches already are.

Offer accepted. Wire transfer only and buyer pays shipping. I appriciate your business, please tell your friends.

But back to the watches. The way I think of paying premium on a new release like the Submariner is a rental annalogy. A sub is not rare, you can't walk into an AD and buy on but most of us could probably get on a few lists and have one in a year or two. Paying a $5000 premium to get it 18 months faster is like renting it for $275/month and then paying retail after a year and a half of renting vs finding something else to think about for a year or two and buying the watch after that time.

I don't begrudge anyone paying a premium but I just can't bring myself to do it. Admittedly I am as illogical about money in other ways. I have been known to spend $70,000 on a car and proceed to do my own oil changes to save $50/year.

Absolutely not...
