over the past few years, there's been speculation that the platona would be discontinued. i've noticed that prices begin to rise sharply at the beginning of the year, only to crash when the platona lives to see another day. this year was particularly eventful. those who paid $150k+ got creamed. i think recent events would make would be speculators think twice about playing the flipping game...

What is the current price for a platona and a platona with baguettes now in the grey market and where do you think it will bottom out? I have been on a AD waiting list for so long, I don’t think I will ever get the call so grey might have to be the way…

The Hulk was an anniversary model, lasted exacly 10 years in production.
Platona is also an anniversary model, will be 10 year in production next year. So it MIGHT be discontinued. And might increase alot in price, who knows. Im not selling

its always fun to do some speculation though

Anyone know if Rolex increased the price of the 116506 on January 1st?

Parting shot of mine from 12/23/22. Four years was enough for me. On to new horizons. In all truth, it’s a great watch, currently overpriced on the grey market (but not as bad as it was). For me it took work to ignore the weight on the wrist as well. A bit sad to be done with it but so it goes in this crazy past time.

I did the same thing last year. I enjoyed mine while I had it, but was ready to do some new things. The pricing run up helped make moving it on a no-brainer for me.

Is the DD40 its replacement for you?

Well they gave me a pretty fair price on the trade in at the AD. The DD is the start; there could be more or I could take the cash out.

You did pretty good Lee! Had it a few years, enjoyed it and got the sell it for more than what you paid !

The green DD is a beautiful piece and am pretty sure you will add few other pieces which will bring variety

This year the 116506 is 10years on the market, do you think Rolex will discontinue this peace quick?
How long was the 116520 in production?

That certainly is something people have speculated about, especially since this year also is the 60th anniversary of the Daytona. I understand the 116520 was produced for about 16 years, beginning in 2000.

No one knows but Rolex, but based on the 60th anniversary, an educated guess suggests “yes” to discontinuation.

I’m sorry to hear of the end of the era, Lee. Quite seriously, whenever I see a 116506, I think of you! You were the first person I knew through TRF to have and love it — and to talk with me about it. And that prompted my interest in it. It took me a long time, but I picked mine up last week at only a couple of grand over MSRP. I guess you’ve passed the baton to the next generation of Platona owners. That’s the way I’ll look at it. I hope you enjoy your new pieces as much as you enjoyed your 116506 while you owned it. I’m sure you will! There is a season.

My AD was very into this discussion the other day, along with the daytona green and the steel daytona. A part from many other brands, you never really know until 1-2 days prior release. I am certain something is cooking at the HQ, but i doubt it will be fully discontinued, some mods or similar seems more likely.
