3 years!? Somehow I find that unacceptable. I mean, it“s a watch they are examining, not a space shuttle But hey, it might be a lack of resources available.

Not all Rolex Restoration Atelier projects take 3 years. But the project load outpaces the expert teams there. They work on projects in each team as the “inbox” of work mounts.

If you have a particularly rare Rolex (for which replacement parts inventory is non-existent) then hand fabricated parts are made and that takes a lot of time vs. picking gears from a bin.

Of course anyone is welcome to try a local watchmaker…

Restoration is one thing…authentication is another.

I agree that a restoration might take longer if obsolete parts are to be made again. Mine was just a movement overhaul when i brought it to the Heritage Dept. but 2 weeks after, i got a call from them informing me that the watch dial will be subjected to further authentication before any work can be performed on the watch. They said it will take about 3 months but its been over a year already and still no word from Rolex.

Frankly the delay seems insane, but it will probably (v v v hopefully) will inure to your benefit to have a unicorn with papers. I just would be upset giving anyone a watch for a three month job that is taking 15 months...

My 1963 GMT 1675 with Silver Dial?

No, a phone call leaves no trace.
Either an E-mail or a classical letter is required.

Anyhow, Rolex SA will be extremely careful with any reply, also because the OP publishes details on the internet, e.g., the photo at the reception in post #97. It is fobidden to take photos there. Rolex does not like such things and they certainly follow this thread as many other forum discussions.

When you prearrange an appointment to review your submission status at the atelier, you may be advised that nothing has been done if the Watch is still in queue to be evaluated.

If I have been keeping up correctly I believe you are still awaiting a confirmed service scope of work and price?

Which would also confirm authenticity…

This is not correct. I’ve taken photos there. It’s not an issue at all.

I hope we're not being strung along again like that with that Narabeen guy a few years ago. He started a thread that ran for years and eventually got banned when it was found he was making it all up and just wasting everybody's time.

This thread's been going for almost three years with no progress at all.

Depends on the location, I guess. At the Tokyo RSC, the security guard all but rugby-tackled me when I tried to take a photo in the reception.

Mind you, Saddam Hussein had a great 60 car collection incl. a F40 Ferrari, and I didn’t trust a word he said or did

But seriously, Eric is as you say proper chap and a collector of some properly rare stuff incl I recall a red writing 6542 or 1675.

The Narabeen thread was essentially the same as this one. He claimed to have a super-rare Rolex that he'd sent to the specialist heritage Rolex center for verification/service that was taking years.

The thread was many pages long - well into double figures. We put lots of time into helping him, and he strung us along for several years. The mods eventually figured out he'd just been trolling the whole time, and banned him.

It's nice to hear respected forum members' opinions that Eric is legit. We all need to raise an eyebrow sometimes, though, to protect our fine community.

Correct. The photo had been taken at the reception of the Rolex HQ in Acacias, Geneva, Switzerland. There, photos are 100 % not allowed. The other guy has no clue.

I also have no doubt at all about the OP. Look at the Rolex acceptance letter he posted in #97.

My goal is to find out if the silver dial in my 1675 GMT is authentic. So I posted it here and in other forums to get the opinion of respected experts. The consensus i got was that the dial appears to be original and that I should bring it to Rolex Geneva for confirmation.

As for my GMT 6542 with red writing, it was for another reason why I brought it to Rolex. The watch was auctioned by Sothebys Hongkong but the winning bidder did not complete the sale. It was then offered to me by my watch dealer and managed to buy it from Sothebys at a lower price. When I posted the 6542 in one of the forums, there were several comments about the watch that made me decide to send it to Rolex Geneva and bring closure to the issues raised in the thread. I felt a sigh of relief when it was finally accepted for servicing after a one year wait which also validated the provenance of my watch.

Are we getting strung along? Been a long time. But I still love narabeen. I refuse to believe he was fake. His dirty hands were so real.

At the risk of this thread going off topic....

Narabeen didnt have a rare Rolex - it was just a 5513 which had a busted dial. Anyway, it wasn't clear if he had the watch or didn't but he got the dial repainted and I thought he tried to sell it but anyway. He got banned in the end. Aussie guy too..

With all due respect to the OP and this thread of his - may we return to the topic at hand and refrain from discussing a banned member.

This is not a rant against anyone but offered in the spirit of TRF and online propriety.
