I *think* Rafa means to say his red quarter dial was only made for one or two years, not that it is new. I remember the pics of his full set plus extra champagne wide boy dial/hands/wheels, too bad those have vanished. (As it is from Barcelona, I wish it had come with a Catalan day wheel - I know they exist, but I’ve never seen one.)

in 1969 in Spain the Catalan was not very well seen, by the political regime of the time.

I think one of the rarest Day-Date models is the wonderful Rolex Tridor reference 18239b (incorporating three types of gold — yellow, rose, white) in both the watch and the band — no stainless steel anywhere. It's as heavy as a Buick on the wrist! This was not a popular model at the time, which is why it's so rare now. Here's mine:

A little research tonight suggested that only SIX Day-Dates were ever produced in steel. It was the Rolex reference 6611 produced for just an eyeblink in 1959.

I saw one with a wooden dial before and that was just something else. Very rare as far as I know it.

Our OP here asked about rarest 1803s - and that was his one and only post!
But presumably some interest in “rarest” DDs exists, as this thread continues. Maybe I can offer a wee, tiny bit of clarity? (Other experienced folks here know much, SO much more ... ) As for the rarest references of vintage DDs, THIS LINK seems reasonably accurate. But, within many of those references, there are certainly rarer and more common dials, rarer and more common hands, and rarer and more common markers. Bezel/bracelet decorations like bark, moiré, or Florentine add rarity, as do uncommon factory bracelets like 18K mesh (of which there are at least 3 factory types) or Gay Fréres. All the stone dials HERE are relatively rare, wood burl dials (in birch, mahogany or walnut) are rarer than common white/champagne/etc., but not as rare as stone. With any dial, white gold is rarer than yellow (rose gold was not offered for many years, many dials). Then there are Stella dials, dauphine/alpha and pencil hands, Wide Boy hands and markers, red quarter dials, Serti and Sigma dials, different chapter rings, etc. ad infinitum — In DDs, as in any Rolex topic, the rabbit hole has no bottom! |

Thing is, go look at one in the metal and you'll think it a TT DJ until you look closer. The RG really doesn't show up well IMO. I love rare ones and if the Tridor was more attractive I'd want one...but having handled one, I don't. So I'll stick with my WG version, currently with RSC Toronto for a dial change to blue, and an overhaul!
Today's watch, YG 1013-->1012 (bezel was gnarly I had LAWW lapp it smooth and reshape the case, MY did the bracelet) on Jubilee, is probably as rare to see as a Tridor anyway. I must take some pics |

I think this is one of the rarest ... a Tridor DD with white gold bezel.

That's the point. The Tridor is all about the bracelet, and has never applied to the case which has always been in WG.
