Will "Blue Dial" (16613) ever be a collectable watch?

Now that the original two tone blue sub has been discontinued do you think it will ever be a future collectable item (e.g. such as the milsubs)?

There were many produced but now that they are no longer in production do you think the value will go up in time?

Is anyone holding onto their 16613 for this very reason?

Comments appreciated trfers!

Not sure if it will ever become a collectible because there are just too many of them floating around.

However, in terms of the real colour BLUE, that is still the best hue of blue Rolex have ever managed on any of their models.

I think any rolex that are discontinued will become collectible in their own right.
As far as how much price will command, only time will tell.
Modern day rolexes are made in such large amount... 900k a yr... its hard to say how much bluseys were made in the last say 10 yrs. As long as the supply remains high, the price will platue. I do want to pick up a used bluesey soon though, the price seem to hover around 4-5k... which i think is a steal consider their MSRP....

In a word, no. Two tone watches don't seem to have any real collectable following, and there are plenty of other TT models in the range that have been produced in fewer numbers. Maybe a Rootbeer GMT might have a better chance

Nope. Just too many of that stunning and gorgeous model (the one they actually got the blue right on!)

I voted Yes!

Yes was my vote because I just got one in trade very recently (less than a week) and I'm loving it.
I agree with JJ about the dial of this watch. I like it so much that even when I have one in my wrist I still keep looking for those threads that I read once and had lots of pics of the watch.
I have been and avid reader of this and other Rolex forums in the net for quite some time and have had several Rolex watches including a TT slate dial Yacht Master that always received many compliments from friends and family but the bluesy is the only Rolex watch left in my collection and I plan to keep it.
Yes. Definitely is going to be a collectible watch... at least for me.

Thanks

Mario

IMHO no modern Rolex will ever be collectible.... cept maybe the Zenith Daytona as that's the LAST Rolex to have it's movement outsourced.

Maybe in 20 years or so. But there are quite a few of them. Great watch though, I'm keeping mine.

I agree with JJ and Chris (GMT Master) - highly unlikely because a) there are too many floating around and b) TT models have traditionally not had collectible status.

However, it may be (and I stress the word "may'') that the final, pre-ceramic series may command a bit of a premium because it was the last one to have the "ROLEXROLEX'' engraving on the rehaut. Not sure, but it's probably the Z or M series.

I can say that there is quite an interest in the watch. I have a V serial TT Blue that is unworn and still has all of the stickers on.
Earlier this year, when it was still available in the shops I offered it for sale on here, looking for a UK sale in order to minimise postage hassle. There was lots of interest from the US and Australia.
I lost interest in the sale when messed about by a couple of people here in the UK and so it is back in the box!! I think the colour is fantastic, and the way the dial glints in the sunshine is amazing.
Pity the US buyers did not live in the UK!!

Collectible - unlikely. One of the most beautiful Rolexes - definitely. Mine stays in the collection for sure.

Have to agree and would doubt if any modern day Rolex would be classed as really a must have collectible.

Exactly why I like mine I very much doubt it will become collectable but they remain excellent value, at least in Rolex terms

I'd say maybe in 20-30 years time, if you can find a good sample of one (unworn with B&P's), it may be a collector to someone who is looking for one.

I won't say it's completely impossible to be a collectible item... maybe one day blue will be the new black and suddenly Rolex stopped producing blue...

Most of the "collectible" watches are a) SS and b) plexi references.

Going by this, I seriously doubt the TT blue sub will be collectible.

But it sure is purty!
