Wife's Rolex Journey

After many years of trying my wife finally "allowed" me to buy her a Rolex in 2011. Of course my own preferences took over so I tried to steer her towards a TT DJ, Jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, legible dial and larger size (31mm for her). Regardless, her first choice had all the above except it was a 26mm on Oyster.

After a couple of years she decided that perhaps I had been right, that a larger size would be better and yes, a Jubilee might be better as well. So, we got her Rolex #2. However, this choice had a smooth bezel, was all SS and had a dial pattern that while very feminine and pretty, was not quite so easy for her to read. Regardless, she was happy at that time.

After another year she decided that "perhaps" I had been completely right way back in 2011. She is now happy to present Rolex #3 which has all the features that she says make this one a lifetime keeper and will someday go to our daughter. Sorry for the so-so pic but you get the idea.

And finally, a big thanks to DavidSW. You are awesome, my friend.

Beautiful timepiece. I hope she wears and loves it!

I am in the same boat. My wife couldn't decide between the 29mm and 35mm. She went with the 29, and I think she regrets it.

In a few years, I plan to buy us matching Submariners. I know she will be happy with having her own 40mm.

Hahaha....your wife is smart. her strategy has bagged her 3 rolexes in 5 years. Anyway, your #3 piece is what I am looking to buy next but a 36mm for small guy wrist. Question is :- many choose the Yellow Gold for the TT DJ but i rarely see anyone sporting or even showing in this forum a Rose Gold Two Tone DJ. What are you guys' thoughts on YG vs Rose Gold on a TT DJ?

Yep....three in five years but she flipped the first two. As for rose gold on a DJ I personally prefer YG but think the rose model is a beauty too.

Third time is a charm, sometimes it take a bit of trial and error to find the right one. Congratulations to you both!

Hi all,

I have been reading all the interesting and informative posts here on the forum. I will be buying my first Rolex at 55. I have been looking at a datejust 31mm TT (gold and steel) Roman silver dial with VI diamonds 178273. My mind was pretty set on this until I saw the Rose gold and steel with chocolate dial VI diamonds. Sorry I did not post pics here to show.

I will appreciate comments and suggestions on what is a better watch for years to come. Compare to the Chocolate dial, the silver dial looks 'dull' but I don't want anything too flashy. It will be my everyday watch and I would like a watch that will hold its own well into the future.
