General caution/warning re: cnnman
A user called Bagigius claims to have paid another user called cnnman a sum of money for a Rolex Submariner LV.
Bagigius claims that he has not received the Submariner LV from cnnman. Without knowing all the circumstances this is a general caution/warning to all to exercise care. As always people are soley responsible for their own transactions and the forum will not get involved in personal transactions.

Funny - I was going to say something when I saw the CNNMAN getting his post-count up by just placing emoticons in the replies....

This sucks when we just got finished with the doctors problem you would think people would remember the last problem and keep with the long time sellers on TRF.
I wish the TRF members who bought watches from other members would put it in their signature section for references that would help to see who is selling on a regular base on TRF. Greg, Dave and Steve would be the top three. |

TRF is just about the Ft. Knox of watch sites. You might do it once, but you'll NEVER get another chance doing bad business here!

The guy hasn't even offered an LV for sale.
As has been said just 15 posts with about 45 words in total. What goes on? A joke ? Windup ?

I think the 15 posts in 15 days rule needs tightening.
Make it 100 posts in 3 months sounds better - approx 1 post per day for 3 months |

While I realize we have a group of well known sellers here, BS like this mucks things up for those of us on BOTH sides. Not only is a member possibly out thousands of dollars, but it makes it all that much harder for those of us new to selling here to establish a trustworthy presence. Stuff like this really burns me up.

Maybe all sellers should be Pledge members first. That TRF would have credit card records. Besides, all the good sellers are already green or pink.

No I don't think forcing sellers becoming pledge members will solve the problem. It will just create the illusion that the forum is making money out of sellers and TRF will be dragged into all kinds of disputes/claims what not. Also, when someone pledges, his/her credit card numbers are kept within paypal. TRF has no way to find out those details.
The only way to combat these scammers are 1. buyer education - reference checks, talk to members who had done transaction with the seller, do in-depth research. There is no substitution for due diligence. 2. if at all possible, maybe we can have a member helping member section so that members can volunteer their time to check out the seller's item/s. This also mean the volunteer would need to be very knowledgeable in spotting a rat - easy said than done. There is always an element of risk when buying things you can't see beforehand or from the Internet, if you can't stomach this, go buy from an AD. One thing I do want to change is that we should allow people to respond to forsale threads. Prospective buyers must post a message such as "pm sent" or "payment sent" on the thread so that people knows the watch is reserved/sold. This will help eliminate the situation where scammers selling the same watch to lots of buyers, as did what happened in another board. By responding I mean we will only allow messages such as "pm sent", "payment sent", "received" types of messages and no others. If people want to comment on the watch, they can post a thread in watch out and followup a post in the forsale thread pointing to the watchout thread. With so many on sale, we want to reduce clutter as much as possible. Just my 2c. |

Well Said Ian,
This kind of thing makes it difficult for any member who want's to sell to finance another purchase or becomes tired of a piece. Their has to be a better way to vett members who want to sell.I can't believe that only a handful of sellers on this large of a Forum can be trusted. That said: Opinions are like A--hole's everyone has one. |

I sent CNNMAN a PM and provided this link, and told him he needed to check in and explain the situation. That was about 5-6 hours ago.

Even with the few situations that occur when a member gets scammed, I bet the frequency rate is way, way less on this forum than in the general market (Ebay, etc.). There seems to be a tremendous support system at work here. This is a testiment to the large % of TRF participants who are good, honest people. That certainly doesn't take away the sting if it's you that got burned. As was stated by previous posts, there is NO substitute for due diligence, but at some point most decisions come down to some level of trust. It sucks that some people in this world just don't qualify for the trust most people give them.
I for one have learned to do my home work and I'm very happy that I came across TRF. My most recent purchase, as well as my future ones, will come from those trusted sellers on this forum. While I haven't made alot of posts, I have spent alot of time absorbing the comments and information posted by others, and have come to trust what I'm reading. Trust takes time to establish and I can see that (most) sellers on this Forum are out to provide good, honest service and products for our hard earned dollars. My 2 cents. Ken |

We have a few solid sellers on TRF and that is better than playing with Ebay and loosing big bucks. Again as stated before, check out sellers and the references. Look on TRF and you will see the sellers who are used over and over again without any problems however you have to be the one who investigates the seller to make sure he is rock solid. If you live near a seller, meet them at a AD and make the exchange at that location. |

I think that CNNMAN is looking at this thread before you wrote to them, and if they really were on the up and up they would have been posting a long time ago.

It looks like Bagigius would come forward and let us in on the details. I hope He/She paid with Paypal/Credit Card.

Doing your DD is required. Honest sellers are better covered than honest buyers. That's why all the TRF purchases I have made are from trusted buyers. I have also sold watches and fully insure each one. Greg's FedEx incident comes to mind. I personally know how upset he was when his customer did not receive his gift.

A couple of suggestions:
- more posts required. 100 minimum - the content of those posts scrutinzed by mods before allowing someone to sell on the site. - once above is done a special tag under the name designating that the person is an approved seller - approval does not mean that mods or trf are financially responsible for a bad transaction. It only means the person has met the minimum standard. - once sellers reach a minimum number of good transactions, a special designation is given, such as "elite trf seller" or something. Just some ideas that I thought of very quickly so don't flay me for them!! ;)
