Service time UK RSC or other

All,

had my work bonus through this month so decided its time to send my 16203 Datejust that I inherited from my late father earlier in the year off for service! its well overdue, it actually runs fine, maybe a little fast but apart from that is in good working order. 1998 model last serviced in 2002.

So what do I do? send it off to the UK RSC via an AD or do I use somebody else and save £££?

I'm in between UK RSC or Prestige Time Services (have been recommended them several times).

I'm slightly swaying towards UK RSC for 2 reasons, the first being I fancy it going back to Rolex. The second is, my family has a good history with John Pass (AD in Crewe and Newcastle-Under_Lyme) but I live in Milton Keynes. I have no history with either of my 2 local AD (Fraser Hart MK or Baker Brothers Bedford) so I'm wondering if I take it to Baker Brothers in Bedford if I can have a chat with them and build up a bit of a relationship, basically I'm hoping to purchase a new black Submariner in the next 5 years so want to start the foundations early.

My view would be RSC. Will come back looking like new, 2 yr warranty and run great.

Be good to give the old work horse the service it deserves I reckon!

Send it to RSC yourself. At least that' what I did here in the US. ADs (rarely, but they do...) mess up something. Eliminate the middle man.

Personally, I'd wait until it needs service. If it is serviced by a truly competent independent that has the proper equipment and training, you will maybe save a little $$. If it was serviced by RSC back in 2002 I'd send it back to them, and then you can rest assured that it will be done to specifications, with genuine Rolex parts, etc. BTW it is a beautiful watch and sorry for the loss of your Dad.

Hello, as it was from your Dad. I would go to an RSC. You do not want disappointments with your Dad's watch. Just keep the good memories as you look at it.

I think its around +7 maybe a little more so probably needs it.

I'm the type that will also wear it in shower/ hand in sink so don't want to run the risk of seals perishing it.

Or......as you are only in MK, get on a train to London and take it personally into Rolex RSC in St.James Sq.

Yes it is, and yes there is one at West Malling in Kent as well.

My late father always used to take his 16013 Datejust personally into St.James (back in the day when you used to walk down the outside steps into the small basement reception/workshop area) and I've continued that by taking it to St.James for the service its needed since he passed away.
Took my Sub in there 18 months ago for its first service as well.....(it's a bit more plush these days though and you can go in the front door )

Oh that is very handy to know, I can get £13 return ticket including underground haha. Do I need to phone ahead or literally just walk in?

Oh excellent! Got a free day on Saturday so looks like I'm off to London for the day!

I was going to pop into St James a couple of weeks ago after a meeting (suited and booted) but We went for a liquid lunch which involved about 10 pints haha, ended up in watches of Switzerland instead.

St.James RSC isn't open on a Saturday I'm afraid.

Weekdays, 9.00am-5.00pm only.

As above, RSC St James. Amazing service, and an extra official piece of history for that lovely watch. Oh, and it’ll come back in a lovely green pouch!!

Those are great for storing the watch or other bits and bobs, use them all the time.

Your watch will look and run great after the RSC service

I’m not sure they’ll do that, but it won’t hurt to ask

Finally got round to calling them today £500 to carry it in, 5-6 weeks waiting at the moment. AD wanted £600. so worth taking it in for the sake of a £13 train ticket.

+1 for St James.
Pleasure to deal with and great communication, in the end I didn’t go ahead with the repairs/service (Dial style not available from the RDC catalogue and I didn’t want to alter my late fathers watch)

But...

Green Pouch nonetheless
