Hi Team,

If I were to buy a 14060M today, brand new, would they be SEL or non-SEL?

Cheers

The Z series Sub ND was the first to appear with the COSC printing on the dial. The latest V series retain the holes in the case and the non SEL bracelet.
My feeling is that a COSC Sub ND belongs in every Rolex collection.

Great review. I just picked up a P-Serial 14060M. It's my favorite watch now.

I like this watch very mutch. I am planing to buy my first Rolex as soon as I can, but since I dicided a few weeks ago, up to now I only saved 200 euros so, I will have to smoke less cuban cigars in the following months...
Anyway, if my choice is now 90% sub vs 10% GMT, I keep hesitating between Sub Date and Sub no date. I like the sub no date because it is pretty, cheaper, less common, more classical. I like the sub date because... it gives the date and it is the most famous. I mean, when you weare a Rolex, I guess most of you, you like when your friends, your boss, your barmaid, the hotel receptionist look at your wisp and say "nice watch"... and I was thinking the Sub date is more "iconic" for non-Rolex people. Let say the cyclops of the Rolex is like the spoiler of the Porsche 911 or the crocodile on the Lacoste shirt... it "upgrades" the watch for the eyes of the non-Rolex people.
But now, I am thinking: "what about the date"? I don't need it that much... and is that cyclops that beautiful??? Big debate, even for myself: one day I say yes and an other day I say no... So, when I have a problem like this, I talk to my wife. She is definitely younger than me but also definitely more mature... and she said: "you already have an Invicta looking like the Sub date, so, even if is not a Rolex, take something different"... So, I feel what I will do is getting first a Sub no date: it costs almost 1000 euros less, I will save the money faster, and later, maybe I'll get also a Sub date... or a GMT Master "pepsi"...
The good point is my wife finally admitted the fact I can spend all this money "just to know what time is it" instead to change my wardrobe and wear something else than t-shirts, jeans and my 3-years-old Carterpilar shoes...

Oddly enough, I rarely look at the date on my watch. It was a win win situation for me, once I thought about it. I struggled with the sub date as well, thinking it was more iconic. Once I accepted this purchase was for myself, something I always wanted, I stopped caring if other people recognized the date model more. In short, I love the clean, simple look of the model. I have a few other nice watches that are MUCH more complicated. As with life, keep it simple!

Good review, fully agree.

The 14060 COSC is my favourite, it gets most wrist time.
Why? It is light, comfortable to wear, it is THE Rolex Sub, mine is running extremely accurate (+20 sec per month), classic, beautiful, simple design....And the history! What can we get more from a watch? I LOVE IT!

And I know what I am talking about, crazy for watches, owning about 30 or 40 of them, complicated, decorated, some much more expensive than Rolex, but finally:::14060m!

Thanks for your review, enjoy your watch as I do.

Regards Tom

here's mine! It's the second 14060 that I have owned. Also had an A series I bought in 1998, then traded it for a new Sea Dweller. I like the 14060 better... :)

Is it possible to upgrade a 14060 to a SEL bracelet? Thanks much.

Darn you Ed!... after reading this thread I went out and bought my 14060M.
I had been agonizing over date/no date, cosc/2-liner, rehaut/clean, new/old. Anyways it all became crystal clear.... I bought a 'Y' 14060M from a used luxury watch dealer in Kowloon Hong Hong (yes, it's real). Near-mint for $3100 US. - no paper though. Really love its clean lines - its the ultimate watch and it feels so good on my wrist. Now to sell my Tudor mini-sub...

theken, can you tell me a bit about the SS bracelets on the 14060? I have read a few references here on RF to the fact that the bracelet on certain years, or within a certain range of years, is somewhat 'tinny' or less than solid-feeling. Now, this will in no way prevent me from acquiring what is my grail watch. I just want to know about this distinction between the SEL and non-SEL bracelet, and I'm looking for some info on the SS 14060 bracelets in general. I want to pick up a fairly recent year (maybe 2004 or newer). Should I expect to see different bracelets? Is there one in particular that guys around here like better?

Thanks to you or anyone who can shed some light on this for me.

If you are lucky enough to own or buy a 14060 it has to be a non COSC version!

The addition of the COSC added little more than a piece of paper to the box and spoiled the cleanest of the dials. The lure of the ND is its simplicity, less is more, the absence of the date and cyclops balances the dial and on a non COSC it has the perfect '2 up 2 down' balance of written text on the dial.

Non COSC versions are older and will become vintage and sought after in time where we crave the original design after suffering the ceramic invasion of the last few years.

If you have got a COSC you own probably the 2nd best pound for pound Rolex out there but perfection needs not the certificate!!!!
