DD 128235 vs 126715CHNR

I recently picked up a day date 128235 and also own a TT 126711CHNR. Unfortunately I have to free up some funds and sell the 126711CHNR, and will be down to 1 watch as an everyday piece. I really enjoy the DayDate, but am considering trading it for a full RG 126715CHNR, as I dress very causal 99% of the time here in south FL (shorts and tshirt). I feel the GMT, even in RG would be an easier watch to pull off with causal wear, and is more versatile, although the DD isn’t too out of place either. I’m torn on which to go with as a 1 and only daily, and market values seem to be very similar. Any input is greatly appreciated. I attached base pictures for reference.

DD ... and that dial is a killer. Not a fan of sport watches in PM.

I’d stick with the DD. No issue pairing with casual clothing imho. It’ll wear better than the all gold GMT.

Can't go wrong with either. I almost always lean towards sports models. So, GMT.

I prefer the 15 as I enjoy timing things using the bezel. Plus it’s a better looking piece. Here are a few action shots in a warm and casual environment!

Great shot, the lighting really depicts the warm tones of the watch well.

That DD is gorgeous! I think you’ll be missing it if you trade it off. The GMT is nice, but not DD nice (all IMHO).

Hard choice as I love my Rootbeer, but that DD is killer.

Not a fan of the diamonds on the DD, I'm usually team Day Date but I'm gonna be team GMT on this one.

So I've been following some of the other threads/questions you started and it sounds like this is what happened:

1) You originally had:
RG OF Daytona Chocolate
TT CHNR

2)Then you traded Daytona for the RG DD36 eisenkeisel.

3)Then you sold the TT CHNR and traded the DD36 for a RG CHNR. Not sure how much leftover cash there is after all this, maybe 8-9k?

I believe you mentioned you were in it for investment also. Obviously we all like different things, but I probably would have been happier staying put with the Daytona and TT CHNR than trading one of the best OF Daytona to do a questionable upgrade to the CHNR to full gold. I say questionable because many regard the TT as the better version.

You did all this in the span of 7 months. The two you originally had are the best investment pieces. But I feel like you lost a bunch of value there with all that wheeling and dealing, how about staying put for a while?

You’re correct on my watch journey, however I never made a single purchase as an investment. I’ve also owned a few other models prior to all those purchases (2 two tone DJ 36’s, an LN GMT, and a BLNR, as well as a Zenith EL Primero). I love the aesthetic and tone of RG which was the reason for my most recent purchases. I liked the Daytona, although couldn’t warm up to the Oysterflex and wanted something with a date complication and more legible dial. The TT Rootbeer was actually one of my favorite watches I’ve owned, possibly my favorite and also most comfortable wearing. Once I saw pictures of the 715 and 711 side by side, it killed the TT for me, I couldn’t look at it the same again as imo the full RG 715 looked far more aesthetically pleasing. I had some debt I wanted to pay off so I chose to sell the TT 711, and give the 715 a shot as a 1 and only watch, as I feel it meets all my criteria. Which is why I had to move the DD to fund it. By no means was any purchase made with the intent of an investment, and I’ve actually lost thousands on every transaction. I’ve just always been in pursuit of the perfect watch for me, or perfect small collection.

if it were me, id sell the 36mm daydate and the 126711 and get a 40mm rose gold day date.

GMT for me if only watch. I was a one watch person for close to 5 years with my favorite DJ41 combo (jubilee and fluted). I loved the sparkle of the DJ’s bezel (as well as the DD’s bezel) but after years of daily wear (I was a law student for most of that time and was very gentle on the watch), the fluted bezel lost its sparkle. I worry that would happen with the DD as well so for that reason, I would pick the GMT over the DD without hesitation.

Got it. I thought you had mentioned investment hence my reply but maybe I read wrong.

It's definitely one way to enjoy the hobby, just I think most these grey dealers are close to being scam artists the way they want the moon when the market is hot but when things are down they have zero belief in the product and look to take advantage. So now's not the best time to do the trading game imo and I just hope I don't see a thread from you in a couple months saying you traded the RG CHNR plus cash for a RG DD40 or SkyD whatever.

The bling of rose gold is hard to attenuate for every day wear. But the smaller 36 Day Date would be the keeper of the two. And the Eisenkiesel dial is a supermodel!

No, the 715 CHNR will be a keeper. Down the road I’ll likely add some DD variant, but it won’t be for a while. I’m going to give this 1 watch guy thing a shot, or maybe add a cheap beater like a Tissot PRX for times when it’s not appropriate to have a chunk of gold on the wrist.

Stick with the DD is my opinion. Leave sports watches for stainless. Takes away the "toolness" for me. Besides, gold will never be as tough as stainless.
