Lord...it’s a Marvel 😂

Latest eBay find...a hand-wind Lord Marvel High beat. This baby does 36,000 VBH!

Unpolished / sharp case and pristine dial. Plexi crystal, but I don’t think it’s original. Genuine imitation / new Seiko Gator strap as well. Oh well. I’ll replace that soon.

I love the Stark beauty.

Great, landmark watch, with an interesting background and one of the coolest names out there. That sweeping seconds hand is quite something, isn't it? Congratulations. Every collection should have one

Thanks Adam.

Wow...that dial of yours has a crazy patina!

Yes, the seconds hand is quite smooth.

I hope the Watch will keep good time. I do need to find someone who can work on these old Seikos.

Wow Speedy that is so cool!!
Does it have an automatic movement?
Can you give me an idea of price range for this kind of model please?
Is this 36mm case??
Is this watch circa 1970's?
The backed out lume reminds me of the Cern 1019 Rolex Milgauss

Steve, they're manual wind only and were produced from 1967 to 1978. These days you can expect to pay around $450 to $600 for a decent to great example.

There's a good article about them here: http://wornandwound.com/affordable-v...m5740-hi-beat/ (although he wrongly states 1975 instead of 1978 as the last year of production, and prices have gone up since it was written)

Nice vintage Seiko. That has a coolness factor that many just don't understand.

Hey Steve

Thanks. I’m “well-chuffed” with this understated piece.

Sorry I missed your question - thanks to Adam for providing some good details.

This one is a manual wind, 35mm case. It has a 19mm lug width.

These old Seikos run from 35-37 ish in size.

The year is around 67-69.

I paid $375 USD to a Japanese seller - in Japan - who often lists vintage Grand, King and Lord Marvel Seikos.

Keeping good time...loving the 36,000 VBH.

Thanks guys.

Definitely not a statement piece - truly more of an “understatement piece” which may seem boring to some, but it is really is “affordable” vintage as Worn & Wound likes to say.

That's a great price if it's running well. You can date the watch down the the month and year with the serial number. What are the first two digits and does it say waterproof or water resistant?

Thanks. I’ll check on the details Adam and post...I’m not wearing the piece at the moment.

Yes. So far my eBay finds: Grand, King and Lord are running fine.

I do need to poke around and find someone who can work on them at some point.

I hope HODINKEE never does a feature on these pieces. The prices will sky rocket. Every hipster will want one. Worn & Wound is great - but they don’t have the readership yet.

8 = 1968
8 = August

So it was produced in August 1968.

"Water resistant" on the caseback would have meant August 1978, as they switched from Waterproof around 1970/71.

You're welcome. I learned about Seiko serial dating here: www.watchsleuth.com/seikodatefinder/
