It's a cool watch, for sure! Have you seen and handled one in person? If so, and if this stirs interest, then I encourage you to buy one and see how it goes. I believe it's an essential for watch-enthusiasts.

I recommend the Speedmaster Professional in its "standard" configuration of plastic crystal over the dial and steel case-back. Current reference on a bracelet is 311.30.42.30.01.005

As for market prices and how to buy: If you buy a brand-new one from an authorized dealer, then search for dealers willing to discount by around 20% - 25% from the Recommended Retail Price (this is possible in the USA, but not sure about the market in your location). Pre-owned examples in pristine condition trade in the USA for ~60% of RRP, and this has been a very stable market price for a very long time.

I recommend buying the watch on its bracelet, and then sourcing a strap or two per your taste because the Speedmaster Professional is a great candidate for them.

Immerse yourself in the story of the watch. If you’re a space nut, it’s a no brained. Probably the best value watch on sale imo. Don’t let retained value be a factor at this end of the market. Buying new or used in the big presentation box, it will come with a Nato. But I’d also recommend the bracelet over leather. It’s not a daily for me, I just get enjoyment out of owning it and wearing on special occasions. I also have a vintage strap I picked up for £30.

I bought mine on the high street in the UK for just under £3k on a bracelet. You can get a bit more off in airport ADs. I used this to haggle and worked out well when I saw the size of the amazing presentation box. I was passing through Heathrow later that month and plan A was to buy in duty free. Let’s just say it’s not discrete. Sometimes I wish it was my only watch so I can admire the box along side.
