5711P is it worth??
Hey Guys,
Was wondering if the new 5711P worth the high value (USD 95k)??!!. Do you guys think that this piece gonna be a piece to keep??. I understand its very heavy BUT its as shape as 5711/1A!! (Which is approx 25K). I've the classic SS version and was thinking to upgrade to the new Pt. So with the almost 72k difference, is it worth?. Appreciate your kind opinions. Have a great weekend all. Khalid

Worth is a relative term and it would not be worth it to me.
Still the same movement as the stainless steel watch.

Khalid my friend for me I have to say no. I think that money can be used towards a more special piece. That is just my thoughts but of course to each his own. Cheers,

For that price, I would want something more than "just" the addition of precious metal.

5711P is it worth??
I have a very close friend here, who is a Rolex (mainly) but in general experienced watch collector. During one of his trips to Shanghai last year he popped in one of the 'underground' second-hand watch shops there (exquisite pieces from people selling in casinos, needing fast cash).
That day he tried on a yellow gold Nautilus, black dial. It was offered to him at a price which was something close to $15k, no box or papers of course. Having discussed it with him repeatedly, this must have been a 3900 or something, as with our limited experience on PP we both cannot see a similar model in the current lineup. Irrespective of the 'deal' or price at the time, he still to that day deeply regrets not buying it. Whenever we talk about PP, he never forgets to remind me it was a pretty heavy watch for its size but the most comfortable metal timepiece he has ever put on his wrist. He described the experience as "...few seconds after I put it on my wrist, I completely forgot it was there..." Coming back to your question, I think it will be a special watch, but they all are and you already have a great collection. My personal feeling is that if you choose not to buy when released, you'll most likely end up ordering one at a later stage. All the best with this decision!

To me it is not. But if it feels right and fits into your collection, then I say why not. Cheers

Khalid your collection is so amazing that I am not sure this piece will stand out much since it will look like other models made by Patek until you look a lot closer. I think for that money you could find a truly unique piece. Just my humble opinion. In the end you should buy what you love!

Kahlid I say go for it.
It would be something very few have and the fact no one would know what it is but you would make it all the more special I think it is one of those few pieces that if discontinued at an appropriate time I think it will really go up in value. One of the first reasons is because 95% of people that would want it will say I am going to save 72k and get it in SS. I have a feeling very few will be sold and I think might become a hot and rare watch some day |

I'd replace my 5711/1A with it in a heartbeat! The idea of it looking like a steel watch but then to turn it and see that diamond!?! Oh such sweetness!

If you already own the SS version, I would keep that one and buy something that looks completely different. The 5980/1R-001 is a great option.

5711P will be quite a unique piece, ultimately you are paying for the metal and the uniqueness, if that does it for you, then why not. |

I think it's all about your financial situation. To me I would defenitely not do it. But if I had money to burn it would be a nice twist to wear a platinium watch that looked like SS.
However, I wish Patek had done something with it like Rolex did on the WG sub: They reserved the blue dial and blue bessel for the WG version (among the white metals) so that "those who are in the know" kan see the difference. I'm not sure if the dial is excactly as the SS version? If not I would consider that a plus. All in all a wonderfull watch though and it would defenitely get wrist-time if I had one.

While its definitely a unique piece, I would not get it. But I love things that are understated and its truly an understated piece.

It also has the small diamond below the bezel.

I say go for it...having owned a couple of platinum Pateks I love how understated they are and how no one but you knows what is on your wrist.
Also in this case the watch is rare and may become sought after. Just my two cents |

Guys - am I missing something here - are Patek launching this as a reference or is the discussion in relation to the few that have cropped up at auction etc?

I got to say, if i had that kind of change in my draw, i could not resist!
It is a sexy hot watch, just imagining that weight tugging on my wrist makes me smile. Go for it

It looks awesome but I wonder what else you could get for that money, especially if you are buying multiple pieces in that price range. I would try to get something with some interesting history. For example, I read that Kelly Clarkson bought a Jane Austin ring for about $230k, one of only three pieces of jewelry known to have belonged to Austin. That is very unique. I would rather buy that than the latest Tiffany and Co offering.

Well, I couldn't find anything on the new version, but the older version that sold at Christie's earlier this year weighs over 220 grams. (It sold for $821k!!!)

That's almost 4x the price of 5711/1a & looks very similar. I'd go for 5713/1g, although white gold, atleast have diamonds to tell a difference and cost 20k less.

For 95K I'd get a 5170G with the Breguet numerals or if I didn't already have the 5146 I'd get something like the 5940J and get a grand complication.
