I'm on the list for a 5712 and hoping to get mine in July or possibly Nov. I also have a 5711 and 5167, just like you. I was concerned that the 5711 and 5712 were too similar but then again I like both watches so I've just gone for it anyway. How are you finding it having both 5711 and 12?

12 is sportier and 11 a little more classy, but the simple time and date make the 11 a little more under the radar for me, you should love the 12, awesome watch

Note the 5712 may look sportier but it has "only" 60m water resistance vs the 120m of the other nautilus.

Well yes, but I don't swim with my watches, even my AP diver, of course to wash it under water 60m is more than enough, but if you want to swim with your watches 120m is better of course, but even on a 300m if one joint is dry and too old the movement will take in water, like was the case on the AP forum here where a member swam with his diver, rated 300 meters, and water went in, I think his warranty was finished, I prefer not to take the chance, of course between leaving my watch on the beach to go for a swim with the risk of it being stolen or swimming with it I will swim with it, but usually don't wear a watch going to the beach...

Did over 300 dives with a Yachtmaster from 10m to 50m and never sprung a leak!!! Didn't even know you had to have a watch pressure tested in those days!!

Yeah out of town ADs are the best to go to as they have fewer clients. I've used a couple in the north but I now stick with my local and they've been very good to me.

I knew a long time ago you were supposed to test them, but the watches I was swimming with at that time were 2-3K at most, so didn't really care and swam with them even without testing them, since I went into high end pieces I prefer just to avoid swimming with them, if I test the watch and 6 months later I swim with it and it takes water, I don't think the manufacture is going to service it free of charge because it was tested less than a year ago, this is what happened to a member with an AP ceramic diver, good for 300 meters, so I prefer safe than sorry...

I'm really struggling deciding between 5711 and 5712!
I have an opportunity to but either a 5711 or 5712 new from AD. Both in steel (blue dial) and both on bracelet. Really struggling which one to choose as what I like about each is also what I don't like about each (relative to one another). For instance:
5711 I love the plain dial, but worry that the plan dial is too boring. Love the understated look, but worry it's too understated. Like that it is less money, but is it inferior because it is less money. 5712 Love the complications, but don't really need any of the complications. Love the asymmetrical dial, but worry it's too busy. Like that it is more interesting, worry that it I will like it less as time wears on. Curious what the current sentiments are out there now that both of these references are extremely difficult to find at AD. Also, hard to ignore that on secondary market both watches are selling for about the same price, but it will cost me an extra $8,000 to get the 5712 new versus 5711 new. That being said, I don't intend to sell either, just know if I got 5711 and regretted it, I could trade into a 5712 for nearly an even swap whereas if I get the 5712 and wish I would have gotten the 5711, I will basically lose the extra $8,000. Of course, I hope not to regret either decision and no, I can't afford to buy both. Any and all help/thoughts are appreciated. Especially from those that have also gone through this excruciating decision and/or have owned either or both. |

Re next price increase.
Aug 16 £24,120 Apr 16 CHF 29,300 Feb 15 £21,850 Apr 14 €26,900 2013 $36,000 2012 $33,900 Oct 2011 $36,000 Jul 2011 $33,900 Feb 2011 $31,600 Apr 2009 $30,700 Feb 2007 £12,760. So yearly really. If you buy now at list plus 10% (grey market) say £26,500 on your wrist 2017, that's better than waiting two years and two price increases of 10% each through a dealer say £28,800 on your wrist in 2019. You would have had the pleasure of the 10% cheaper watch for two years. The only advantage of buying from a dealership is so you acrew favour points to build towards a preference piece. But if they don't have your piece in stock - what is one supposed to do. Good luck. I prefer the 26 to the 12. More symmetry. But then I'm a touch OCD. |

@SamP actually Feb 2015 was a price reduction in the UK (if I remember correctly) The August 2016 increase merely reintroduced the status quo primarily due to the collapse in the GBP. As watches are circa 7% cheaper in UK than Europe I wouldn't think a price increase is unreasonable in the future depending on exchange rate movements.
