5167 worth liquidating for?
Hello everyone,
I have decided that I would like to get a 5167 as my next piece (and first Patek). I have handled the watch and started to really understand what the extra money and effort produces compared to other brands. I am in a position to purchase one now, but would need to liquidate both of my Rolex watches to get there (pre-ceramic Daytona and GMT Master II LN). The Daytona is not a concern to me as I purchased it solely as a good deal between friends (he could care less that I'm selling it now). The real question is whether selling both would be worth it to move up to the Patek. Other than the GMT and Daytona, I have a Nomos Orion (my dressier piece), a sinn 556i and Seiko skx007j. The 5167 would fill in as the watch I will wear 5+ days a week. The obvious answer would be to keep one (or both) and buy the 5167, but I have set aside as much as I would like to for watches at this time. From the eyes of Patek owners, would you rather have the Daytona and GMT or 5167. Thank you in advance! |

Go for the Patek, I think you are ready, just has a different feel to a Rolex.

Absolutely. You can always go back. My Aquanaut has been worn 90% of the time since I got it.

I would do it! I feel like it would be on your wrist all the time let alone any other watches.

Yes. Just do it. There's nothing like owning a Patek. This will really make you appreciate a Patek...

I recently acquired 5167 and have to say it is such an easy watch to live with. It has its charm in a simplistic manner which is hard to describe. The dial is beautiful and always glowing. Also it is so light, I sometime forget that I have it on.
I would highly recommend adding 5167 to your collection, it has a different feel/ownership experience compared to Rolex ownership. |

I would prefer to keep the gmt and sell the others if possible. If not, then I would still do it.

I will go against the grain and say no - do not sell two for one. I understand your dilemma, as I had the some one with the exact same watches. I think a GMTIIC and Daytona make a great pair. I still want a Patek - but will wait to save and add it to the collection. You have two great watches. Don't sell them for one watch with just a date function, even if it is a Patek.
Good luck with you decision! |

I would try to avoid being Rolex-less, but the 5167 should check all the boxes for a 5 day a week casual/sport watch unless you travel a lot (the GMT is better for this) so from a purely PP perspective yes do it. Add back your favorite Rolex as your next watch after getting the Aqua.

Yup 5167 is everything as advertised, as well as supremely accurate above all else. The Patek 324SC movement (Same movement as the 5711 Nautilus) is incredible. +/- 2 seconds a day. Very under the radar and stealthy, you either know what it is or you don't. Rolex, rich or poor people know what the brand and the crown is, but Patek, only the select few will know the calatrava cross.

100% go for the Patek. My 5167 gets 95% of wrist time. Backup watch is my 14060m Rolex.

Honestly, not so sure. I think I'd keep your Rolex unless you go for a nautilus.

I'd say sell all but GMT and get the Aquanaut. If not, may I suggest you are aiming a bit too high? It is way too easy get sucked into buying more exclusive and expensive watches (hanging around here doesn't help). If your budget doesn't allow the 5167 without pretty much selling everything else, then I'd say you are overshooting

Except if you like big, heavy an bulky watches, which the 5167 is the antithesis of, of course do it, though I would go for a Nautilus before an Aquanaut, but if you prefer the Aqua do it

Patek is a great choice but it's no Rolex when it comes to durability. I went through 2 5167's with normal activity before I gave up and went back to Rolex.

I tried on the 5167 yesterday. It's a beautiful watch. That being said, I wouldn't liquidate to purchase it.

Although not to the level of a Rolex in terms of "bulletproofness", I thought the 324 was an extremely forgiving movement |
