Watch Stolen in Barcelona

Hi All,

I was traveling this past weekend in Barcelona and my offshore was taken off of my wrist. I was a few blocks away from where all the clubs are in Barcelona. It was around 4am, my friends were still in the club but I just wanted to get a cab and get back to the hotel. I was walking trying to find a cab and then two men approached me, the first grabbed my left hand and asked where I was from and asked if I liked football. He then interlocked his leg with one of my legs (presumably so that I couldn’t run away). The second man got closer and closer to me. I knew what was going on so I told him just take the watch. They took the watch off of my hand and ran away. The whole thing happened in under 30 seconds.

I already emailed AP to put the watch in their system and mark it as stolen. Please be on the lookout for it. It is a blue themes with a blue rubber strap on it.

The reference number is 25721ST.OO.1000ST.09.A. The case number is G31021-13899.

A scary time when wearing a watch could potentially bring harm to yourself.

Thank you all.

Lowlifes. Glad you're ok! It's just a watch and hopefully no harm was done to you. Was it at least insured?

Sorry to hear! And I’m sorry I don’t have any great advice. Just know it could have been worse and at the end of the day it’s just a watch. Inconsequential in the grand scheme of life.

Had a group eyeing my GMT while riding a train in Barcelona. My group starred them down and they got the message. Doubt I would have been as successful if by myself.

Glad your only loss was the watch.

Glad you are okay bud! Hopefully these low lifes get what they deserve.

On a side note, is there a specific email or data base you inquire with at AP to get information on whether a particular watch was stolen/missing?

That's terrible. Glad you are ok.

I recall another member getting his AP stolen while visiting Barcelona - so be careful everyone.

My wife was pickpocketed in Barcelona ten years ago. We were on a Metro (mistake), we were watching like hawks and it still happened. The thieves were using her credit card even after it was closed.

Sorry it happened, glad you are ok. Hope it was insured.

Hindsight is 20/20, but Barcelona is a G shock kind of town. We were warned by our tour group. Great city, though.

I think you did the most sensible thing given the circumstances, apart from being ok I just hope you’re insured.

It’s tempting to think that in this situation you’d be able to knock them out with a couple of Bruce Lee moves but in reality fighting over a watch may get you killed.

I dealt with someone at the Clearwater service center to register a new watch I bought a few months back so I emailed her and I'm sure she will put me in touch with the right person.

Really not cool this happened - as others have said, good it was just the watch. If its just property you're losing, let it go. Stuff can always be replaced.

How do you think they pinged the watch on your wrist? in the club, or could they have seen it when on the street in the dark ?

On a practical note, I assume that Clearwater would inform the EU divisions as its more likely to end up landing with one of them one day, than back in the states.

Good thing you're safe - that's more important than the watch.

my family and I are thinking of going to Barcelona in July for vacation. Now having second thought of bringing my BLNR with me.

Barcelona is notorious for pickpockets and muggings. I spent a week there last Spring walking around the entire team wearing a SubC. I am 99% sure on my last day when a guy bumped into me at crowded touristy square he was attempting to pickpocket me. Luckily, he failed.

Also, while I find it hard to believe, some people claim thieves can even get a modern watch like a SubC off your wrist without you noticing.

Junamuan, bring an Invicta BLNR! Barcelona has the most skilled thieves in the world. World class in football and theft. Sorry to say, but it has been our personal experience.

We will be in Vancouver in June and I expect to wear an Explorer II and go home with it.

Glad you are safe. A watch can be replaced, but not a life. Very scary though that it happened.

You may have made the best possible move - quick offer of the watch to get them away without any other form of violence. Cash may not have been enough to satisfy them. We seldom carry much these days, so they prob didnt expect much cash wise.

Very sorry to hear this but glad you're not hurt. Good move on your part to just give it up.

I had my Diver ripped off my wrist when I was in Naples, Italy 3 years ago. They're such pros. One guy tapped my shoulder, ripped the watch off my wrist and his accomplice was waiting for him on a scooter. Gone in less than 15 seconds. At least it was insured and I was not hurt. Sucks the big one but could have been a lot worse especially since I was with my family and young toddlers.
