Is this blue Rolex 1601 Wideboy "Sigma" dial the ultimate vintage Datejust?

Happy collecting, my fellow TRF'ers!

The "ultimate" of any vintage reference is very subjective, of course. I've owned blue, gray and silver DJs, and I actually prefer the classic silver dial for a "pure" vintage feel. And I love the smooth bezel DJ on Oyster. They're all beautiful, of course.

I think my 1603 had a similar dial...the inverted T markers (no idea what they're called).

I think they’re so-called railroad markers?

Nice watch, but those hands are not correct for wideboy dial.

What kind of silver is it? Sunburst, or linen?

Your datejust wide boy sigma blue certainly is the ultimate vintage datejust. My grail for sure. I've been searching for this exact variation for years. 1601, 1603 or 1600, I don't care, for me it's all about that dial.
(reposting OT's photo coz it's amazing)

Not a sigma (nor a DJ), but here’s a similar 1971 OP Date with a blue radial dial - Looking sharp at 50!

Did you add the president bracelet, or did certain datejust models come with the president? Ive been searching for a datejust president but not sure what to search for. Thanks!

That was a cheap aftermarket bracelet, but it did look good.

Well, they're all stunning. Loving this thread!

Personally I like the DJ 1600 with the smooth bezel and sunburst cream dial.

I can definitely see why this is one of your favourites. What does the 3.5 refer to?
