Made a slight mistake

I must preface this with the last G shock I owned was back when I was twelve and I think it cost me all of 80bucks and that was a fortune to me back in the 80's.

So fast forward to Friday the 28th of February 2020 or is it so going back to Friday 28th of February 2020... well anyway you get the point it was last Friday and I went to pick up my son from school, he is 12 years old and an overall great kid. We are very close and he LOVES watches like me and his older brother.

He is extremely bright but scattered. He will do the homework but forget to turn it in, or he will get sick miss a day and not follow up on missing work, etc. I am not into punishing. I do not believe in it, I believe in rules and consequences for breaking them, said consequences must be clear and known so one can decide if breaking the rule is worth the consequence. Thus punishing oneself. I also believe strongly in motivation. My kids know I will try to give them the world if they do their part if A. I can and B. If it will not hurt them. So within reason.

So, I wanted to motivate my son and took him to my AD. I walked him over to the G-Shock case and said any watch in this case you can have. As long as you finish this year with A's and B's not a single C on final report card and NO missing or late work for rest of the year. Now to show you that I am confident that you will do it, I will buy the watch today. But you will not wear it until that report card. If you fail to make it. Then chance two is at end of 8th grade... but if it is a no go for both I will keep the watch for myself.
I though no watch in the case woul be over 200 ok may 500. But I was surprised he picked a beautiful titanium camo Gshock. I looked at it and said boy that is a all metal watch and will be very heavy for you. AD interjects it is all titanium even the case so really light. I then said but it is a titanium bracelet I doubt it can be sized down to your wrist size.
Ad again interjects no Gshocks can be sized down to last link. Then I asked the price. I almost fell back and said, oh I don't think so bubba that is dad watch money right there. Sons response, Dad you said ANY watch in the case, your rule. Little bugger got me.
I have never rooted against my kid making the grade, but man that gshock is sweet LOL.JK, I do hope he gets his watch and I can post his wrist shot in the father child wristshot thread. Kids got good taste and lots of brains. Takes after his pops and good looking to boot. Have a good evening all. God bless.

Yeah, I would agree with you if I didn't see his eyes pop out of his skull, he has squinty eyes, so to see them pop out like that in surprise is a sight, I tell ya. Lol. God bless.

That's a pretty cool watch, especially for a young person. I am not familiar with the going rate and had to Google that model - holy smokes!

Well, good luck to him; that is certainly great motivation!

I hope you get killed on this deal, mate.

Your son has good taste.

Check out the book “Smart but Scattered” it helped out my 12 year old daughter who sounds very much like your son. We are dealing with mild ADD -Inattentive Type, so it is a challenge. I really hope you have to buy that watch.

Thank you. I will most definitely post pic. He is working hard double checking his work and reaching out to his friends to ensure he did not miss any HW. I think he may have this in the bag.

I think goals with rewards can be a very good motivator but the rule do need to be spelled out.

Rules are spelled out and clear. He knows when he missteps, he will ask like, "Dad I know I missed the grade so I know that I do not have video games... but maybe an hour" my response is usually "then what good is the rule?" He then goes "your right, but had to ask".

1200 with AD discount. Took me by surprise I must say.... But, I did say any watch in this case... never thought it would be that expensive. I guess I am lucky as AD told me after there was a watch in there for 5k. So could have been worse... I am happy for him and he is worth every penny. I am so hoping he makes it! He got A's and B's this quarter one more to go...

$1200 for a G- Shock. That is crazy money. The G-Shock I wear cost me a whopping $89.99

Actually this habit could serve him well in the future. When shopping at an AD, you never know when you might get lucky just by asking.
