Is there any vintage you regret not getting?

You could afford it but chose not to for some strange reason back in the day when it was still available brand spanking new at the AD?

In 1997 I passed up on a very early model (like 1910 or something) Rose Gold Patek pocket watch for $1,200. Was beautiful and I could have negotiated the price. It was something I regret.

Milgauss for £450 back in the day. Brand new.
Comex Sub in Aberdeen for £400 which was £150 cheaper than a second hand regular Sub because of the engraving. No one really wanted them.
Enamel dial jump hour Prince (honest!!) an absolute one off. It was an off white enamel dial with "Rolex Prince" baked into the dial below the hour window. A friend of mine had it in 1990 and no one had seen anything like it. He paid £1,200 for it and wanted his money back. He took a small loss on it as no one really knew what it was. It was an impossible watch to fake and for £1,200 wasn't worth it.
I'm going to stop, or I'll be here all night!

Interesting thread...
A well known collector told me once that its the watches you don't buy that you end up regretting not the ones you buy. I suspect he is right. I sat on the fence too long and missed the opportunity to buy a 1675 round crown guard gilt gloss chapter ring dial in unpolished condition last year...I won't make that mistake again.

In 1981 I picked a SS Datejust over a Daytona. They were both brand new and around $1000. I've kicked myself for a long time over that one.

There's more than 1 but the Patek 60's moon phase 18k for $3000 is the one that sticks out it was 1991 the jewelry store had 3 for a long time. I kept buying the $500 Rolex gilt divers from them and they kept asking me to find somebody to buy the gold dogs they had.

I was offered two snowflakes on oysters for 800 each back in 2001. Also about 7k for an early (possi ly Newman) daytona around 1998. Silly me. I never envisioned the hobby expanding like it did

Around 1987 in a coin shop, I held a Daytona and a pre-Daytona in my hands. Both stainless steel on bracelets. I didn't have the $1,500 to get BOTH OF THEM. Didn't have the money for one, for that matter. I had Rolex tastes on a college student budget. I was in there to buy a gold-filled Keystone Howard Series 11 Railroad Chronometer pocket watch with a cracked dial. Paid $125 for that. Also passed on a Milgauss at a pawn shop around the same time. But even then, $900 was way too much.

1974 , on board Choctaw 2 , B.P. 40's , North Sea . American diver , working for Comex offered me his 'beat-up ' Rolex Sub. for £ 150 ( GBP ) , y'know the one with
Comex on the dial ? I declined the kind offer , I thought it was an ugly chunk of metal and not in the same class as my Seiko Automatic ! He must have thought I was a fool..... AAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH ! You live and regret....huh ?

I think we have all made similar decisions. Sometimes I wonder if we had purchased these watches in our moment of passion, would the 'love affair' have developed as planned, or the watch just turned into a flipper? Then again.... a 1675 round croo... .......oh well. Live and learn!

I'm a bit on a reverse trend on this one.... I try to buy as much as u can afford, so as not to have the Missed Occasion syndrome. Si far, my purchases over the last 2 years solidly confirm that what I'm doing is quite right....... :-)
