FSOT Rolex Day Date ref. 1803

Up for trade today is a Rolex Day Date, ref. 1803, yellow gold, with a gray wide boy dial, serial number 2,7XX,XXX, dating to 1969-71 per online serial number reference databases.

Although this watch is growing on me, I’m still not totally connecting with it, which is why I’m feeling out trade offers. The dial is an interesting color, and I think the wide boy hands and markers stand out. There is a small scratch the dial above the hand stack at 12 o’clock. The bracelet has stretch to it, and there is a small ding on the exposed clasp. It is an exposed clasp version, not the post-1973-ish hidden clasp on newer models, so it looks to be original to the watch and appropriate for the era. It’s vintage, so there is some wear to the case and bracelet. I’ve not owned it long enough to polish it, service it, or otherwise mess with it.

Here are the included goodies that come with the watch:

-18k gold president bracelet, length about 7 inches

-5 watch bands… including a red wine colored contrasting color stitch strap with gold buckle, a medium brown alligator embossed strap with a gold buckle, a black quick release strap with gold buckle, a suede strap with stainless buckle, and a ‘vintage’ looking strap with stainless buckle. I purchased the three bands with the gold buckles from Amazon to get a better feel for how the watch looks, and I think that it does look very nice off and on the bracelet. They are new. The two bands with the stainless buckles came with the watch when I bought it, have been worn, and are therefore used.

-Gold colored, 20mm stainless steel spring bars for the Rolex Day Date, for use with the gold president bracelet.

-Some paperwork/manuals, including info booklets, receipt, and card from retailer

-‘Swiss’ hang tag

-Outer cardboard box

-Box

Price: I’m looking at a trade/sale value around $9000 USD OBO. Just seeing what’s out there and if there’s something that I’ll connect with more. Prefer to trade rather than sell straight out, but I’d be open to the latter if trades don't develop. I’m located in the Pacific Northwest. If you have any questions, please PM me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. I’ve tried to be as transparent as possible with the photos, since they tell the story, but if there are other shots that you’d like to see I can definitely take them. References available.

Just in case you’re curious about how a similar gray dial can look, and why I picked this up, check out Hodinkee’s shots and writeup for one they sold a bit ago:

I have three albums of photos on imgur that I can share for those interested. Willing to trade up or down, and add cash to the right deal. Interested in a Speedmaster or JLC in particular, but open to any offers. Thank you for looking!
