A gift for my wife- to- be.

Hello friends

Your advice please....I am looking for a wedding watch for my wife to be and would like to ask what watch would be the best in terms of value and would also be available for purchase (unlike nautilus which takes years).
in my list i'm considering the foollowing: Patek Philippe or Rolex. Budget would be around $7,500 to $10,000 Case diameter should be less than 40mm,a new watch.
thanks.

I was in a similar situation and mine actually gravitated toward Cartier. I’d take a look at some of their options because they make elegant women’s watches.

You can get a pp 24 in ss with diamonds around bezel black dial for $10k usd. My wife loves hers - it’s quartz and she doesn’t have to wind it or fuss w it. She has 2 rolexes but wears this one most the time .

I don’t think Patek is an option in that or ice range.

Rolex date just or Cartier Tank would be the options I’d look at

In my case, I was looking at a simple white metal Rolex Date Just, and a vintage Patek that wasn't too patina'd.

Good luck with the watch hunt, and congrats on the future!

I would ask your wife to be about her preference. Most woman know what they want. Some like bling with diamonds and/or yellow or rose gold. Others may like a SS or WG without a lot of glitter. Also automatic vs quartz is something to think about. Many women like quartz, but then you have to get a battery change every couple of years. When you are under lockdown during Coronavirus, there may not be many places you can go for a simple battery change on a watch.

At that price range, for a Patek, the 4910A, SS Twenty~4 would fit the bill.

In that price range I’d go for a Rolex Datejust or Cartier

In that price range, a nice Datejust with some gold / diamonds or a Patek Twenty-4 would be my pick.

My wife wears watches like beaters, and she truly does 'beat' them up during the passing years. Swimming, kayaking, off-road bicycling, etc. We had matching Patek Aquas (5167 for me and 5065 or some such for her), yet she was afraid of their fragility so we sold it back to dealer and got her a customized DJ36. It's been great! The DJ36 was ~$7000 with all the bling and the dial she wanted too. She truly loves it!

It is the her of timepieces and smart move with the baguettes on the 6 and 9 as it makes it easier to read too. Sorry and all, yet quartz movement is for her Swatch when she wants to 'dress down' or the DJ36 is not appropriate. We also share the Cartier Tank Solo XL on bracelet (have many leather straps too), and this is without a doubt a very classic timepiece with a mechanical movement for $3700 on bracelet ($3450 on leather).

Cartier make beautiful, classic watches that manage to be both funky and elegant at the same time. They’re also incredibly good bang for the buck.

It’s where I’d go every time (for the record, my wife’s daily is a 42mm rose gold Pasha.)

Another vote for a Cartier in that range. For Rolex, a SS jubilee Lady DJ in MOP with diamonds can be had with a little stretch.

Cartier is nice, but would never regret a Rolex Datejust 116234: a 36 Steel Black Mother of Pearl Diamond Dial Fluted Bezel with Jubilee Bracelet

Maybe a nice quartz 33mm AP royal oak? Otherwise, you can't go wrong with Cartier or a datejust.

Not married yet? Patek already? Not being a A hole but just giving you the real. Married twice 5 kids! They never appreciate things and will never be happy, at lease wait a couple years. You don’t get to split “gifts” in divorce😬 sorry bro I hope I’m wrong

I looked at these for the wife... honestly seemed like a no brainer.

What I learned -- changing the battery requires a full service, and that is $$$. So, I passed.

They are releasing women's watches with a mechanical movement now, but obviously the price point is higher (beyond OPs budget).

As for the gift for the wife, Cartier good in that range as everyone mentioned. I think JLC makes some very nice watches for women as well, but maybe need to look used/gray for that price range.

My wife's choice was a JLC reverso automatic in SS. It was around 9k retail, so I bet you can negotiate a better deal.

I second the JLC reverso automatic. Great watch and movement for the price.
If in need of a beater, Rolex DayJust

Please allow me to be the foil to this rather sad and bitter take.

A Patek or another nice watch is not going to cause problems in your relationship, just as it will not fix them. I have been married for a while, long enough to know I get no greater pleasure than from giving my wife and children gifts.

This is reciprocal.

Don’t let other people’s toxic relationships colour your own.

I hope she loves whichever watch you choose.
