Perpetual Calendar Dial question

Hypothetically, if the current AP Royal Oak perpetual calendar 41mm was to somehow have a transparent dial, would it look as good as its predecessor model?

Wish they did this combination in current 41mm steel models.

Ps. Does AP service centre allow for dial changes on this model?

They did release the black ceramic in skeleton.

It looks to be a different caliber then just a dial swap...

No, they wouldn't do a dial change because the movement itself is finished differently for openworked pieces.

Correct, the older model uses the calibre 2120/2802 manufacture movement, whereas the new one uses the calibre 5135 movement; it actually happens to be a different movement than my ceramic perpetual which is the 5134.

Here is the 5134:

Here is the 5135:

Wow i did not realize there was that much difference in the two calibres of 5134 and 5135 but from the pictures you've shown, it is clear a lot of work has been done by AP to truly make it an openwork.

Looks like I have to forget this idea and save up to get the openwork version . you indeed are a lucky guy to own the ceramic version, must be amazing in the flesh.

You can see that a majority if it really has to do with the bridges and opening them up so you can see the internals of the movement, the movement itself is fundamentally the same from what I can tell. Even though there's an extraordinary amount of attention to detail with the movements that are generally concealed, with the openworked versions they go a step above and beyond to showcase their craftsmanship with the finishes and textures etc.

The ceramic perpetual calendar is an absolute dream come true, I have actually worn it every single day since I bought it in November and still drool when I look at it. Looking forward to my next ceramic piece so that way I can rotate them.

I have a question on the perpetual - thought I'd ask the forum for a faster response - with the quarantine I've had less opportunity to wear with working from home.

Not to mention the Apple MBP are not friendly to watches!

What is the proper way to set what feature first? Do you set the week first, then month, then day, then time?

Each of them can be individually set with the little push pin tool they give you, around the perimeter of the case you have the quick sets to put everything into the right spot. Only one I can’t get perfect is the moon phase and it drives my OCD nuts. Also, on the AP site under the perpetual calendars they have an interactive guide to help you set everything correctly.

I feel you, even when they set up my QP CODE in store, it was off by a couple days.

On the Hodinkee site, there’s a moon phase and when there was a full moon, I just resynced it and voila
