Holy Christmas!

How does the working class make ends meet with that kind of insanity?

they use public transit, have fuel efficient cars, walk, and ride bikes.

I lived in London for almost 8 years. didn't drive even once.

their transport infrastructure puts the US to shame. still remember taking the bus and the tube when my wife was in labour with our first child. Was faster than driving if we even had a car

Yeah, if you live in London, I can see why you don't need a car. Like if you live in NYC or any major US city. I worked in NYC and took public transportation to work.

But the US is expansive. There are 11 US States each larger than the entire UK. An overwhelming majority can't walk or bike to work. My coworkers live 40 kilometers away, 80 round trip and need to drive to work. Even with a fuel efficient car, it would be a fortune at almost $7 a gallon.

Read the news this morning and immediately filled up both cars hoping to hedge the potential rise in gas prices. Diesel is running $2.87 a gallon cash only. I notice Fuel Seems to be cheaper in the sketchier parts of town.

$2.07/gal last time I filled up a few days ago in Midwest City, OK. I’m in Orlando, FL with the family at Disney World this week. I saw it at $2.33/gal near our hotel.

There's an Exxon gas station across the border in Massachusetts that has regular 87 octane at $2.299/gallon.
It's $0.30- $0.60 cents more per gallon in Rhode Island.

Interesting. Maybe we should start a thread on electric rates!
I own 2 homes in The Rochester NY area, one is a rental property. They have separate electric suppliers. I pay about .11/kWh for one that is supplied by a large publicly traded supplier. My rental pays only .03/kWh and is supplied by a community owned supplier.

I took this on Saturday September 14th, 2019 outside of Toronto (Ajax, Ontario) at an Esso station:

Regular 87 Octane - 114.4
Extra 89 Octane - 130.9
Supreme 91 Octane - 137.9
Supreme+ 93 Octane - 138.9

Those were the prices in CAD per liter of gasoline that day.

In Christchurch New Zealand gas is about $2.24 NZD per liter. I think that works out to about $5.60 per US gallon depending on daily exchange rate.
