Let it stop or set the date?

I haven't had my vintage 1957 oyster perpetual date for long. I sent it for a service and it has come back with the date 11 days out, (it's showing 15th today, the 4th). It doesn't have a date quick set and winding it on 12 x 24 hours seems a bit brutal so would it be better to let it stop and wait for the date to catch up with the watch?

Should've thought about that before buying a 1957 Rolex with a date. ;) It's a pain, but the watch will be fine

Three minutes while you're on the loo. Get it done.

Let it run. You'll catch up a little every month that has less than 31 days! You'll be fine in 2022!

Thanks, I'll wind it on a few days at a time though. By the way there was a very good reason for buying a 63-year-old Rolex Date, but that's another story.

Just wind it through to the correct date. When I bought my DJ I accidentally set it forward 1 day so have to run through the whole month.

If setting the time classifies as "brutal", someone may have a pretty cushy life. The OP could have done it in less time than it took to post this thread and then respond.

The easiest thing is to just let the watch sit unwound indefinitely. The time and date will be correct twice a month. ;-)

It’s tough in these streets. Don’t buy non quickset watches for $500 Alex.

I don’t set the date on my vintage stuff... I also tend to collect non date vintage (or wear modern when it matters).

Sometimes I don't bother to set the date, but there's something satisfying about having it right.

Let it run how it does. I have a 6549 from 59, no date but never set the time. I have a smart watch or my smart phone. Who uses the watch anyway .

Next time it happens, do it backwards, the movement can handle it.

First World problems Life’s good!

Just take the time to adjust when you’re doing something else like watching TV. Part of the charm and connecting with your time piece. Comes with the hobby.
