Buying advice on 16710

Hello,

As a total newbie, I would really appreciate your opinions on this 16710 that I have the opportunity to buy. In my opinion, it seems fine and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Looking at pictures of NOS watches from this era (late 1990's), I'm sure that it has been polished - but not excessively so. The chamfers look decent and my overall impression is that the case still has some heft to it. The price is reasonable.

Judging from the attached images, is anything obviously off? My main reason for asking is (in case I'll ever sell the watch in a few years time) to have an idea what real enthusiasts think when they see it.

Cheers and Happy Easter!

Definitely polished but not bad at all. Watch actually looks great to me. What it comes down to is price and if that price matches the condition. That part will be based on what you’re willing to pay.

Another (personal) criteria to determine acceptable polishing, along with chamfers and lugs, is the remaining depth of Rolex coronet on the clasp.

I think this is not NOS. This is such a prevalent watch so common and so many clean examples available, do yourself a favor and buy from a great seller. Perhaps you already are. If not, we’ll probly see your posts in the watch out section.

Looks to be a light polish but from what I can see it looks great. Good luck.

Looks petty good (based on your pics) for a 20+ years old watch! Sounds like you've done your homework - comparing "your" watch to a NOS example. You can always replace any over worn or over polished items when you get it serviced. Good luck!

Make that two

It's up against this specimen. Polished as well (according to the seller). I find that judging the case "thickness" is trickier without using lug holes as a reference. Looks decent to me. Perhaps the chamfers are a bit too pronounced.

I believe that at this point, the only reasonable option is to buy both.

Very lightly polished! Grab it because it won’t be available for long!

Buy them both and don't look back. In a couple years, they will pay you premiums over what you're paying for them now.

I got the 16710 Z-series (second set of pics) with box and papers. Everything checks out. Very happy with it. I really should have bought both though...
