GMT Master 2 Video Instructions

Hey guys!

Was just on YouTube looking at some watch stuff and this video popped up

Pretty informational. I admit I knew how to use a GMT master 2 for two time zones but never knew how to read the third time zone

Thanks to this video, I learned!

Out of curiosity I watched the video and I wouldn’t read a third time zone like that, it’s adding a step. A Rolex GMT automatically shows two time zones at a glance by reading the standard hands with the dial markers and then the second by reading the second hour hand using the 24 hour bezel.
To read a third you don’t need to switch it to greenwich mean time, you just need the time offset from the 24 hour bezel and move it accordingly. The hour (gmt) hand should always be on what you consider home time and most people will know the offset of a time they want to know from their home time, so just move the bezel accordingly. No need to reset to greenwich mean time which not many can know as you travel to different time zones.

This very minute I don’t know what the current gmt(time) is but I do know the offset to Paris from my home time, if I move my “gmt hand” to greenwich mean time, that would mean as a traveler I would lose my home time which isn’t good. Most people who need to know a third time would only need it for a moment if they have to make call or confirm a detail, they wouldn’t need it more than their local home time, so no point in losing that.

The GMT Master is an amazing travel watch and you can even use it as a compass to help identify direction, like whether you’re facing north or east. There’s videos for using your gmt as such too.

Agree. Just turn the bezel.

Thanks for explaining that, that makes a lot of sense.

And sounds easier.

If I ever land a gmt I’ll keep that in mind.

I’m going to look into the compass idea as well

To use as a rough compass, the 24 hr hand must be on local time.

A GMT really is a great tool watch in the real sense because not referring to ruggedness or beating up but that it has actual every day usefulness, particularly and especially for who it was made for, a pilot or traveler.

You’ll really love it if you move around time zones at all, I love mine.

On my Explorer II, the GMT hand is always on Philippines time, since that’s where my wife’s family still lives.

When I travel a lot (will again, post-COVID), I use the GMT hand on the BLNR as home time.

When I’m not traveling a lot, I keep the GMT hand set as GMT time. That way I can move the bezel easily when I need to click over to London or Tokyo to see when the markets there open/close. The rest of the time, the 8 is at 12:00 so that again, I can easily glance at time in the Philippines.

+1 Rashid.bk I found his 3rd time zone less than optimal. In fact, you have to know where 22:00 'would' be if the Bezel was in normal/un-adjusted position.

TRUE (persistent) 3rd time Zone watches will include a secondary 24 track on the rehaut or dial in addition to the rotating bezel. I have DOXA 750-GMT that I can persistantly track 3, and technically a 4th reference if I rotate as described.

i used to keep the gmt hand on actual gmt time then just rotate the bezel.

but now you can get all the info you need just by looking at your cell phone (without knowing gmt time)

the gmt maybe in danger of being obsolete

You are right, but I don’t like reading the time on my cell phone.
my GMT watch is always on my wrist (sometimes I can’t remember where I put my cell phone!) and doesn’t rely on a batterie to be recharged
