I was just thinking the same thing. That said, I think he should buy it.

And no, owning a Rolex doesn’t make you a jerk. I’ve talked to some of the nicest people on this forum. Haven’t really run into any jerks... not that I can remember anyway.

Exactly. Lots of family and friends think I'm crazy, material and even one called my Sub a "Douche watch" I could care less what any of them think, never mind strangers or coworkers.

Wrong place to ask this question my friend. You don’t have to justify anything to anyone but yourself in my opinion.

The sting of buying one, the feeling of guilt, quickly goes after a week. Then you are left with a beauty on your wrist.

If you're a jerk, so am I. Buy it, enjoy it, be proud of it and be proud of yourself for having worked hard enough to buy it. People who slag you off are just jealous that they can't afford what is essentially an unnecessary luxury. The only opinion that counts is yours.

Do it. If anyone says anything about the cost tell them it's a free country. I understand some people may think it's crazy to spend that kind of cash on a watch but compared to other tangible investments a Rolex holds it value as good as any.

Buy as many as you can afford! You only live once and you can't take that money with you. Don't feel bad about taking care of yourself.

I could maybe see someone who is 30 asking these questions. Going on 50? No. So, stop stressing. You know whether you can afford it and whether it makes you happy.

I bought my dad a Hermes tie for Father's day once because he always commented on mine...he never wore it. ugh.

And by no means did I intend to insult anyone on this forum.

And yes, I will probably buy the watch soon...very soon. Thanks everyone.

Not a many people understand our cravings to own a special timepiece (or many special timepieces). You won't regret owning a classic. A special watch for a special milestone. Wear and enjoy!

If you want it (and can afford it) but don't get it because you care what other people think, that would make you a jerk IMHO.

This could apply to anything luxurious, cars, boats etc. these things deprecate the moment you buy it. From that perspective the Rolex is a better investment and not as flamboyant.
But since when do we need anyone’s approval before we purchase it, if you can afford it, your wife is ok with it, then do it.

You won't ever be able to enjoy much in life, let alone a watch, unless you can get over what others think about you. Let what others think bother you and don't get the watch. Don't care about what others think and get the watch!

Yea, I’m rich, and a jerk, wanna fight about it????
Seriously, what others think is a waist of time. I would suggested that those that have such shallow opinions of others because of a material possession are the real problem and might be increadably insecure with who they are. Buy a the Rolex and be your own man and forget about hiding it or what others might think. Rolex tend to be worn by alpha personalities.

People won't hesitate to spend an extra $10k on a car that they enjoy for an hour a day. Leather, moonroof, heated seats etc, when a base model Camry does all the essentials. Acar that you spend an hour a day in will be lucky to go 10 years before it's worth 10% of its original price. A watch on the other hand is enjoyed 12 hours a day, lasts 50 years? And will hold its value much better.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good car... If you can afford it, do it.

This is funny. I have a friend that buys a $20k motorcycle probably 1-2 times a year. He always sells or trades the previous bike for a huge loss.

He was just making comments to me about my watches. I laughed.

Best quote I ever heard from David West who gave up millions to get a championship ring with the Golden State Warriors “It’s not about the money, just ask the Egyptians, they couldn’t take it with them”

Live it up!

Make the lame argument that its an investment (buying as an investment is generally not encouraged here). Tell your brother that while his Ford Fusion depreciated $2,000 last year, your Rolex maintained its value.
