When you look at the exp ii and then look at the other gmt watches and the waiting list for them it makes you wonder why ?. Its a tuff call because of the waiting lists , now if everything was avalible then we could have a true answer .

They're all overrated. That doesn't mean we can't like 'em.

I was offered the Hulk and BLNR by ADs for msrp not too long ago. I passed on both. Both are nice looking watches but I wasn’t blown away by it. I don’t agree with the Daytona being overrated. For the price right now, yes. But if for msrp, the 116520 with black dial is a stunning watch. I regret not buying one when it was still around 11-12k. The size was just a bit smaller than I wanted that’s why I hesitated. My taste is still evolving so I’m less impulsive and more careful now when buying. But so far, there’s something about the 16710 coke that’s really tempting me. I think it’s a better looking watch than the blnr. I hope I won’t regret because I’m leaning on getting a pre-owned coke over a brand new blnr for my next one. So far I haven’t seen the coke mentioned in this thread so it’s a good sign.

Me either, I figure it's just another one of "those" threads.

Actually I think they are all overrated, they are not the best watch in the world and the prices are reaching a point where one almost needs to sell an organ to get one.

I respectfully disagree with the Daytona being the most overrated. It has one of the best-designed chrono movements out there. It's accurate. Comfy to wear. Has a useful complication. (I time stuff with it a lot. Certainly more than I need to know the time in 3 timezones, and while I do scuba with my watches, I use the Daytona's chrono more than I dive and need a dive watch.) Finally, at retail, it's not that much more money than a less-complicated Rolex. If given the choice of a SD43 or Daytona at retail, I believe the Daytona is the better value.

For what it's worth, I leave mine unscrewed all the time. Just like Paul Newman did! It's equally as waterproof screwed or unscrewed, so long as you don't try to push the pushers underwater. I use my chrono function multiple times a day.

But looking at the gray-market prices, its obvious that DaytonaC is a tremendously popular reference (even considering the controlled supply)...
perhaps the demand is due to the fact that Daytona is now Rolex's #1 uni-sex model. (lol not really fact. just my opinion with absolutely zero data to back it up. lol)

10 years ago it was still hard to get hold of the steel version. Long waitlist. You had yo pay a substaintial premium to a grey dealer to get one. In London the waitlist was like 5 years plus and and in NY I know it was almost as bad.

Zero chance of every AD having a few on display. I bought one in 2006 amd another in 2008.

I’m guessing D5 is most overrated (by those responding) and maybe most coveted all at once

But i saw a thread on this and it claimed the opposite
Anyhow my vote still falls on Daytona

With all the Daytona bashing, I’m surprise nobody has mentioned the vintage Daytonas. How about the 6263 or 6239? They go for way big money, they were so ugly they were hard to sell, and the only reason they’re popular is because one actor wore one until he gave it away in sheer disgust.

I don’t use the chronograph or the time function of my Daytona. I bought it for history and pure looks and I just like it. I’m in a habit of using my iphone for time, date, timers etc.

Then again, overrated? Not sure there is one that would fit that category. If I had a Zenith or a Platona, you better believe I'd find a way to fit those into the rotation

None are overrated.

Overrated against what?

Price?

Style?

Quality?

For the money I don’t believe you can get a better watch so none are overrated.

Perhaps there should be the most underrated?

I go Oyster Perpetual. First automatic and water proof watch and still in production. Total classic.
