Let me put a big * on this before by stating that I'm not against owning this watch one day if it is available at retail and at that moment I really feel like its the watch I really want.

It's got to be the Daytona. Doesn't really have any huge horological history and its biggest claim to fame is being Paul Newman's watch. The watch wasn't even popular back in the day then it became the hot watch to have.

I've said it before and I'll repeat it, it's the watch that a lot of guys get cause the Sub isn't good enough for them. It's still a generic choice BUT it is a lot more expensive and uncommon so it is the Sub on steroids for people who really aren't watch enthusiasts but rather are buying the brand and recognition. Most people on this forum who own one wouldn't fall into the category as we are enthusiasts.

Disagree. The BLRO is the only watch that features a Jubilee with the upgraded clasp. I don't care about the bezel nearly as much as I care about the new bracelet, although I do think they look great together, I'd be just as happy with a Batman w/ Jubilee.

Best Post in the entire thread so far and it’s not because I don’t like the Daytona. Operative words here are “ check back with us...in 6 months....” Regardless of what model one likes or dislikes, STAYING POWER is key to the question the OP raised.

If any Rolex is over rated than they can all be over rated. To me a seriously over rated watch is the 5711, a ss steel watch you can't even hack and no special features other than one super power...it's name PP. But that's neither here nor there.
One of few posts that makes sense.

The most “overrated” Rolex by vote, just so happens to be the most sought after piece...hmmm...

I can only chuckle when reading comments on the Daytona being overrated
If that watch is overrated than every other watch is as well.

Agreed. Wow just looked up the 5711 and they are going for upwards of 60k. I’d take a platona for that price any day. I think the 41mm datejust with blue face is even nicer.

I don’t believe any Rolex is “overrated” but of the current references, I would say that the 116610LV is somewhat overhyped. The watch is extremely photogenic but when you see it on the wrist in the flesh opinions change. I do love the dial but that green bezel just doesn’t click with me in person.
For years I’ve noticed it being one of the most flipped references and you could get them at a discount until the last couple years where it has been hyped on rumor of discontinuing it which hasn’t happened.....

The BLNR is my 2nd choice just because I hate the color combo. That matte sky blue just doesn't work for me.
Most underated would have to be the green Milgauss. I finally saw one live recently and loved everything about it. The size is just right for a larger wrist like mine but not too large. The colors just work and you could wear it anywhere. That watch is just beautiful!

You think a Milgauss is a better looking watch than the 116500?

That's what I said. Why do you ask? The OP is asking for opinions, I gave mine. I owned a Daytona and hated it. If you love it, great. I'm not going to question your taste.

I think people get all tangled up in the difference between liking something and rating it rationally. The DaytonaC probably comes up so often because it is to many people a rather awkward upgrade to a watch that only appealed to a minority of buyers (I like the old ...520 version very much). I find the new bezel heavy looking and out of place on a relatively sleek chrono. It looks like a dive watch to me.

So, some like it, some don't... that's pretty normal. The overrated part comes up because it is talked about as if it is the ultimate life changing watch by some and has people paying crazy premiums over what are already healthy list prices.

Nobody is saying it's a bad watch, some just feel it is rated higher by some than any logic can justify. Overrated is simply saying that people rank it higher than seems reasonable.

Sure are a lot of Daytona comments. For me it’s a little different. Love the Daytona, hate PCL’s. All of them. On any watch i hate them. So for me it’s PCLs way over rated.

Most over rated watch: if i had to chose its BLNR
Underrated: the explorer

Have you ever seen one in person? It's not sky blue and it's not matte.

I'm not saying its not overrated, I agree that it is. I have one and I love it, but honestly it's not superior in any way to the LN, and yet it sells for thousands more. To me, that is the definition of overrated.

I bought mine years ago at retail when they were fairly easy to get. I wouldn't pay today's prices for one. Were I in the market for a GMT today I'd go for the LN.

But damn...I do love it!

Submariner date, I don’t get it. Imho whynot a Black gmt and have dual functionality. I guess a no date sub is ok. I know everyone will go nuts but the OP asked a question and that’s my opinion. I may own one at some point but I have never been attracted to it nor had any desire to purchase one. I hate the fact that everywhere you go everyone has one as well.

Maybe overrated to some means they cannot get it, don’t want to pay the asking price, or cannot afford it.

If some one were to offer you a BNIB white or black dial DaytonaC for a Milgauss, you would make that exchange in a heartbeat. Post some pictures of the Daytona you owned and hated. Bean shooter

Of course, anyone would. I would accept that exchange, flip back into my Milgauss and pocket the $4K difference for walking around money

4k difference? Lol try 9-10k difference. All things being equal. There’s no comparison between the two watches.
