DD40 YG vs Daytona Oysterflex YG...(yeah another one of these)

I know, I know, another one of these "help me decide" posts, and ultimately I have to decide for myself.
But where else can I turn

The consensus seems to be the oysterflex Daytona is overpriced, at that msrp I should go for a full PM watch, since I don't have one already.
But taking cost out of the equation, I'm viewing this as an emotional vs usefulness debate.

The questions I've been asking myself are basically:
Since cost is similar, wouldn't it make sense to get the watch that would be used more?
How much weight should the emotional appeal of the DD affect the decision?

The Daytona would have much greater utility, it would easily be my daily watch and I could wear it without worry.
compared to the DD
-less flashy
-less worry about bezel or bracelet scuffs,
-still enough bling to keep me satisfied

In terms of usefulness, it definitely beats the daydate, but the downside is, it's not a day date.
Maybe Rolex marketing has really gotten me, but even with the Daytona I would likely still want a Day Date, even if that means the DD would stay home on many more occasions.
What do you think?

YG Daytona with Oysterflex, if you have to choose only one.

(YG Day-Date with White dial would look like a grandpa watch. Get RG or WG Day-Date, if you must have a Day-Date.)

(YG Day-Date has a higher MSRP at US$34,850, while the Daytona is $27,500.)

DD looks like a grandad watch. Daytona looks like the wearer has some life left in them.

Which are you?

I think the PM Daytona on Oysterflex gives the most versatility.

Haha, you are right. YG DD can still look cool if it has the Diagonal Dial in silver or black. But this particular DD with White Dial will still look like a grandpa watch.

Couple questions to make a more informed recommendation...Is this a one and only? Or part of a collection? Are you in business attire often? Casual attire....? ...etc...

If you want a Daytona look at ones on a bracelet. I wore a YG Daytona with a white dial and yg sub dials for a decade. The DD works well and is a classic.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about grandad watch!! I am in my 20s (just) and the DD40 works great for me. It’s a really cool watch.

Funnily enough my Dad (who IS a grandad!) sold his Day-Date II to buy a RG daytona on oysterflex.

I’ve bought all 3 and the DD40 is by far the most special. The bracelet plays a big part in this.

It’s all a matter of personal preference of course but the best looking watch in that picture by some margin is the YG Daytona on Oysterflex

The OF Daytona isn’t overpriced any more than any PM Rolex is.

The difference is that PM Day Dates can be had a massive discounts.

Ask yourself why that is.

If you are not up to a YG day date it will eat you alive, probably best to wait till your really up to it.

the only rubber band that i would wear is on a patek aquanaut. the DD YG is very classy, it can be dressed up or down, depending on how you feel. the diagonal silver dial is really nice....and rather sporty. i have the DD40 YG with silver roman dial, it is a bit more towards the elegant, but surely not a pure dress watch.

I've basically owned both of these in RG and would probably say the DD is the more special piece, esp in signature YG, so that would be my first choice, and it was mine too, I added the Strap Daytona later on. I presume you have or can add a SS Rolex for the harder yards.

but would you shell out your cold hard cash for it over a full gold daytona on bracelet not strap?

Thinking about the OP’s question, it’s funny how differently the term “versatile” can apply from person to person. Me, I’d be fine slapping on a DD and never taking it off. However, I would never wear a rubber strap watch with a suit (which I’m in most of the week), so the OF is really not versatile at all to me.

Is this going to be your first YG piece? If so the DD. Your first YG Rolex should be on a bracelet imo.

DD40 is the way to go, it's the flagship of Rolex. Especially in YG. Not a grandpa watch at all, worn by world leader for decades. Plus, the OF Daytona is too expensive, I'd all gold Daytona first.

DD40 grandpa watch? I have 2 of them and i wear them daily. I'm in my early 30s and far far far away from being a grandpa. LOL

YG DD is iconic watch. I'm even thinking of flipping my RG Green dial for this exact setup YG with White dial. Its nice, crisp and very clean looking. This design will last decades as well its a classic combo. I wish they made a white dial with lume markers though.

Daytona! Day Dates are beautiful to look at but they have never generated a great deal of excitement in me.
