USPS Registered Mail Insurance Cheaper!
I was surprised how much cheaper it was recently when I sent Registered Mail insured the other day. Here were my last 2 mailings:
Priority Mail, FL to NY, Insured for $3200. Insurance portion = $41.55. Registered Mail, FL to CA, Insured for $7800. Insurance portion = $26.95. Did not realize that the rate for insurance coverage would be so much less via Registered Mail (about 1/4 of the %). Maybe the rates are lower because the protocol is so much stricter? |

What's the total cost like compared to say fedex with parcel pro? I can't imagine ever wanting to do a deal with registered mail given the waiting period. For reference sending a watch across the continental US priority overnight insured for like 10k would be 75-100 give or take. |

What I've been told at the post office is that you have to PROVE the value of whatever has been lost when you make a claim. The mere purchase of insurance is no guarantee they'll pay the claim.

That's true for any shipping insurance claim. The fine print will explain it is not "stated value".

Doesn't registered mail come with $25K insurance against loss? That's what the post office told me.
