GMT serial number question....

Would a random serial number ever start with a letter previously used as a date reference? I'm looking at a ceramic GMT with a "random" serial that starts with "F" which I always thought meant 2003.... which is pre-ceramic.

Thanks.

Are there any letters in the serial number? Or only numbers after the "F"?

If it is an 8 digit serial number (now considered the 'random' serial), then yes, it can have 2 letters in it, and the letters can be in any combination, including the first digit.
