for a child you could also do rental real estate, throws off income and in the right area will appreciate over the next 15-20 years. best part is offset for depreciation for tax purposes, then take the proceeds and put it into a 529. muahahaa :)

Or, you could just pull a Warren Buffet and tell your kids to get a job.

Three things you should never take from me in TRF.

1. Financial advice.

2. Relationship advice.

3. Parenting advice.

My Dad : "You're out of my house at 18 or you're paying rent." " You will go to college but I'm not paying for it."

Scared me straight.

Nothing personal, he had the same conversation with my two sisters.

We all thrived in life.

Hi Mark,

I actually decided to sell it off this morning. I got cold feet based on the newest development of things we can't talk about.

With Jeff Sessions being sworn in, and his feelings on marijuana for medicinal purposes and marijuana as a whole, I figured I would not get greedy.

I am happy to get out with a 49% return.

I am keeping SMG though. I figure they are a huge company that does a ton of different things.

Your post is giving me second thoughts as well
I went in at $6 so I guess should be happy with the return today.

yeah man. I have been trying to watch the various factors that make a stock go up or down.

I think the company really does have a lot of potential. but if the new AG kills the marijuana revolution. they will have super hard road ahead.

better to take a nice win and move on.

I almost bought Tesla long ago. I was told via people on this forum to avoid it.

Wish I went with my guy.

Anyway, some of your picks have to be better than others to "buy now". I am guessing you feel some of these are at the end of their run?

Anything you suggest is a solid option to buy today?

\I buy stuff that is embedded into society to the point that there are many and tall ($$$) barriers to entry, wide moats and most generate significant earnings. However, they are managed. I usually take a 4% position and feather it off when it gets to be 6-7% of the portfolio back down to 4 or even 3.5% and repeat. That way you are locking in profits, if it goes down I buy more.

People get paralyzed by; it's the top, I'm late to the run, etc rather than owning great companies. Who competes with Google, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, MasterCard, Visa, Adobe, Facebook, Starbucks, etc

Nothing is cheap now, we've had a legendary run. I bought Netflix in the mid $80's, I can't say buy it at $145, I bought Tesla at around $180/190, I can't say buy it at $270. I bought FedEx at $130, I can't say buy it at $190. I bought Apple at $100, I can't say buy it at $135. You get my drift.

If I was you, I'd have cash and buy what's on your list when the sh%t hits the fan next time and have a list ready. The Brexit sell off last year was a great example of people selling to just sell. How was the UK leaving the Euro going to effect any of the stocks I listed above, not at all is the answer.

I still like Financials, XLF, Lowe's has lagged, UPS is off it's highs, so is Verizon. Honestly though, have a list and wait for the next foolish sell-off.

In this vein, looks like Heinz is going to drop hard today.

Thinking about picking up a small amount today.

I absolutely love your strategy and thought process. Everything I buy going forward is going to follow this path.

Anybody try the investing APP Acorn? Looks pretty fun. Like a modern day high tech way to put your loose change into a investment piggy bank at the end of each day.

This is what finally got my nephew to start investing.

I prefer to roll the dice and gamble a little.........if I lose-sucks for me, if I do good-another Rolex. Positions include: DRYS, ETRM, VCEL and VRX

I have another account which I do not buy/sell-that one contains FedEx, MO, UA, IBM, GOOG among others. Obviously this one has done significantly better than the one above.

I have a large sum that I use for my personal portfolio. No gambling for me, I would eventually like to use it as my income.

Just bought Nvda for an average price of $102.80 what do we think about this tech stock on here? I like it makes good graphics card. Technicals I see it going up to $108. Who knows this market is so over bought.

Nvda is a great stock, but as you said market is quite high. If it goes down 5-10% get out of the trade.

Any of you guys do some occasional day trading? If so, what is your general percentage goal before exiting?

I take profits when I feel any position is overvalued. No reason to cut winners short. I did get burned selling nsc too early. Even when I knew some candidate was going to win
