Oh boy. Your collection is simply stunning. And still reduced to very special pieces! Congrats and enjoy it in great health.

Can someone tell when a 1019 should have the plain hands and when buckled hands???

1019 Hands

Thanks! I finally sold the cream rail 16550, so it's the banana piece for the water.

Regarding the 1019 hands, the later hands are the flat versions, I believe. Check out: http://rolexnessreviews.blogspot.sg The black dial is fairly stunning as well... this reference is one of those where it's amazing to wear.

Closing Out The Year

First off, I appreciate this forum and I'm always in awe of the pieces people have in their collection.

This year's journey into vintage Rolexes has been amazing; learning more and meeting buyers and sellers.

I think I get it. Took me some really beautiful pieces, but I think I understand what makes sense for me.

I've sold my pieces that were fantastic, like the 6263 and the 1665.

I've managed to bring in two 1019s and a Tru-Beat; some of the most esoteric pieces from Rolex. These are pieces that don't have the most obvious appeal like the DRSD or the Big Red, but I found myself missing them on my wrist more often, and they're so much more discreet. I also stare at them a lot more when they're on the wrist.

I understand now the appeal of pieces like the 1018 or the honeycomb dials, and also a nice silver Oysterquartz. Perhaps that is the next step.

Thanks everyone here, and have a wonderful rest of the year!

Very nice collection, congrats! I love the red Sub, but I don't know how you let go of the 5513 .... Must've been gut wrenching

It was great to be witness to your journey. From the beginning you have shown amazing taste, focus and great sensitivity as to how to arrange your collection. Every group shot was perfect in itself. And then you found YOUR essence of style, independent of what watches are considered grails or what have you. Good for you!

I can relate. In the past I have let go of LV, 5508, 6263 and many others. Now, in the end, I focus on much more discreet watches that make me feel more to be me. And I feel very content: https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...&postcount=578

You are my kind of guy. Cheers!

Banana dial?

Great collection!
Is the one you call a "banana dial" a 16570?
If so, what is the serial # prefix?

I'm a big fan of cream dial Explorers, and I'm especially interested in the cream 16570's. Most of the examples I've seen have been from the early 90's, R, L, X etc., so I'd love to know approximately when yours was made.

Thanks so much!
-GW

2015 Additions

Decided to add some subs into the mix again, at least for regular wear. Sourcing for parts for vintage pieces are getting harder and more expensive.
