Dial refinishing
Hello everyone, I'm considering getting my 6694 Oysterdate dial refinished. The hour indices have oxidation on them and I'd like to get them replated. Also thinking about getting the dial cleaned up itself too. It's my first Rolex and I don't want to risk having it completely destroyed, but a refinish on the dial would be nice. Does anyone have refinished dials they could post a photo of? I got two quotes, kirk rich for $180 and International Dial for $55. Can anyone speak of either of these two companies ability in properly restoring a dial? I've read mixed reviews on different forums. Thanks!

If not I wouldn't. Photos would be a good thing here. If you want a clean new dial...and yours is original...it might be better to get a good dial plate that has already been refinished and send it off to have it done...and then hold your old dial. Kirk Rich can be very good. Intl. is not quite as exacting. There are others as well. KR has a rougher time with gloss black dials with gold and silver printing. White dials with black text they can be exacting as factory almost. Here is a KR dial |

I don't think I would mess with that dial.
Any work on the markers runs the risk of damaging the finish. An original dial in that condition is far more valuable to the watch than a refinished one. If you wanted it cleaner you could as I said find an ODP dial plate and have a proper refinish done to that and keep your original dial back in case you decided to sell the watch. The hands look to be relumend anyway so you could send them with the dial so they would match the new lume on the refinished dial. |
