2016 Nissan GT-R, is this a great deal?

I've been following this GTR for a while. This car has been sitting at the dealer showroom for almost 700 days. Called the dealership yesterday and offered $85,000. the sales guy didn't commit, but I had a feeling if I come in and ready to sign, they will accept the number. Is $85K a great deal for a 2016 GTR? I am puzzled as to why the car has been sitting there that long.

Here is the URL to the car:

I can't comment on pricing, but as you probably know the current GT-R was heavily revised for MY 2016-17 and the all-new model arrives in 2018, so I would use that as leverage.

Depends on what your goals are, if you want the car, go in, get it done, but you'll most likely pay closer to what they want unless you're the disciplined type and are ready to walk away if you don't get your price. Any salesman worth his/her salt can smell desire and impetuousness. If you can hold those two at bay then go for it and go in, otherwise call the sales manager and get it done over the phone!!

You need to talk to the internet sales manager. Don't bother going in. Once you're on the floor you're brown bread.

Unfortunately I also cannot comment on pricing.

It's a year old car that's why they want rid of it. It's also a slow moving unit. Offer 80k and negotiate from there. Get the sales manager or GM and toss your credit card at him and tell 80k and it's a done deal.

You need to speak to Danny83 here on TRF

Without getting into it, he knows the ins-n-outs of Nissan.

Sounds decent to me.

But I'm a terrible buyer. I spend with emotions.

If I'm you...I'm buying this thing immediately. And then I'm not thinking about the price. At that point I'm just enjoying the drive.

Start lower, work your way up to $80k as a max. I negotiate for cars by seeing what the dealer paid, then negotiating their profit or loss on the sale. On this one, they should want to move it for cost or even less. My tactic is to say "Imagine I'm bringing in a suitcase full of $1 bills. If I bring in X number of one dollar bills, will that get me the car out the door with all the fees and titling and everything?" $80k is a good deal.

Push hard for a good deal, because if you want out in a few years informed buyers may be looking for the revised version which came later in 2016. Of course some may prefer the rawer, earlier version! No shortage of GT-R info out there to help gauge the market, as I'm sure you've done. Good luck and let us know how it goes

That's a great price. I'm surprised it hasn't sold. I know a reputable seller selling a 2015 with 30,000 miles for $69,999 and it's considered a great price for the year/mileage.

700 days is a long time for it to sit.

What's the mileage?

I would go on a GTR forum and ask there.

I had an R32 many many years ago (back when they were proper straight 6 engines) and all I remember was depreciation like someone pulled a plug.

An amazing car though, I hated selling it but it had to go while it still had some value left.

That's the only car dealer I've heard of saying no to a phone deal.

Ok. So now it's hard to trust them.

It's a brand new car with zero mile on it. It's just been sitting in the showroom for almost 2 years. They sold every other 2016 GTR except this one. Very odd.

Interesting. Maybe people don't like red leather? I have it on one of my vehicles, love it.

Or maybe there is body damage during transit that was repaired? Make sure you have that documented when you close the deal if there is none.

Not familiar with options on that car. Maybe there are some must have options that are missing?

I would ask a GTR forum. There could be lots of info from members.

The asking price is about right. If you want to save almost $20K then consider a pre-owned 2016 GT-R equipped the same but with 10K miles on the odo.
You won't get that one for $85K - had they been willing to sell at that price it'd be gone already IMHO.

when buying a car at this cost, you should be able to negotiate over phone/text/email

I have stepped foot in my MB dealer for my last 3 cars, they deliver them, this is a luxury item and you should be treated as such

as for pricing, I have no idea

We do phone deals regularly at the stores I run. I'd go see the car in person.

Tell them you will commit to the price if they do it in writing and you can fax/email whatever paperwork they need on their side.

Tell them you don't have time to play games. I went to go get e G63 from Fletcher Jones Mercedes and had the sales manager agree to a discount. Long story short when it came to dropping the check they played stupid. So I told them to **** their mothers and went across the street and bought a Range.

Make the dealer work for you, don't let the dealer work you.

Flooring on this is probably a few hundred a month. They may take a loser to get out from under it. Also in a month or so banks may no longer loan $ on it as a new vehicle.

Not uncommon for dealers to pull this tactic. If they post something for sale online but require the deal to be done in person, they are really only trying to entice you into coming into the store.

I don't do business with these types of people. Just my two pennies.

I think the GT-R was on a recent list of "cars no one bought" in 2016.
