Did you consider mounting it on top of your new tile?

Looks great Paul, you're going to let Jocke "christen" it correct?

Is that supposed to be in the middle of the space? Or you offset that because of the door?

He can work around it. It's only about 26 times more difficult, but Paul can manage.

Then not mention if one needs to change the toilet down the road, and it's a different base shape, your flooring is now no longer workable!

Correct and correct, I thought a lot about it and heard advice from both sides, toilet first - floor first. It seems the biggest downside to the toilet first was A. More difficult when I put in the tile floor, and B. To remove the toilet down the road ruins the floor.

I weighed these against having the commode settle in to grout, and a couple other things, and decided to go with floor second. That starts tomorrow!

Yep, 1.28 gallons as required by California code now.

Flange bolts were the standard 12 inches from the wall, I just put it over the old pipe. It's exactly where my old one was but a little slimmer and I think a little longer.

Yep, the Ultramax II. I did a lot of research, and this was one of if not the highest rated toilets out there for flushing capacity. After all, people are always telling me I'm full of Sh*#

Save a little of the flooring for future in case you ever have to change the toilet - hopefully never..... I've just had my kitchen and utility room floor jack-hammered off because of a few tiles that were damaged - am sorry previous owner didn't save at least a dozen because now they are obsolete - maybe I wouldn't have the current problem to reinstall.

Not too late to change your mind. Take the toilet out and lay down your tile.

In addition to tiling before installing....

Consider an offset flange to move it over 1 - 1.5 inches.

The women will notice.

Like everyone is saying here I'd reconsider putting the floor down then the crapper. It's easier to nip the tile around the flange then the toilet covers it up. Also if you ever need to replace the toilet it's not an issue because the toilet goes over to floor. Cutting the tile to fit around the toilet base will be near impossible.

Getting a wall mounted toilet would avoid all the floor first / toilet first discussions

There is only one logic explanation for his reasoning.

He's going with vinyl tile.

He said he's worried about grout, so it can't be vinyl.

Considering how much more difficult it will be to fit the tile to the toilet base compared to mounting over the tile, there just isn't a logical explanation.

Paul - It's not too late. It will only cost you a little time and a new wax ring to mount on top of the new tile.
