Yachtmaster 42 WG Oysterflex

Hi all, I wanted to ask any owners or people who have tried this their views and pics.

I’ve a fairly big wrist and wear a Patek 5164 steel easily enough so more concerned re the weight, balance on the wrist and how the oysterflex feels after a few hours wear?

This watch is outstanding. I have a 6.5 inch and it’s just outside of my comfort zone. Anything 7 and over I’d say it’s amazing. Was given the chance at the rg 40 or wg 42 and I picked the rg 40. Not a hype watch but it’s like my most worn. Purchase APPROVED

I have a really small wrist, and the YM WG fit perfectly fine. It is such an amazing watch, comfortable and under the radar.

I have it and really like this one! My wrist is 6.75 and I love the fit and feel. Very comfortable on the OF and the balance with the white gold glidelock clasp is very good IMO.

I love the watch and would own one if I could work it out reasonably. I almost traded my Platona for that and another watch. So far I'm happy having not made the swap but I still hope to get one someday.

I own and love this watch. The oyster flex with glide lock adjustments is arguably the most comfortable Rolex strap combo . The size is great for me as I have a slightly larger wrist and it has tremendous wrist presence . Also, it can fly under the radar, because it is white gold. And it is unique. You probably will not rum into someone else wearing one, at least I haven't. I love this watch.

It's heavier than the 5164 but wears very comfortably as you have the glidelock clasp to balance out the watch head.
I wear it for days on end and it's always a pleasure.
It wears on the larger side but it's unobtrusive!

You can’t go wrong with the oysterflex and glidelock combo.

I have both the RG YM and the WG Daytona on Oysterflex. I slightly prefer the YM on oysterflex just because of the glidelock. Really helps to micro adjust the OF.

Goodluck on getting yours!

I have the YM42 WG and recently for WG Daytona on OF from my AD - enjoy both but would say YM42 edges out the Daytona, it does feel quite a bit heaver than the Daytona and personally I like how stealth and under the radar it is - not that the 116519 is too blingy :-)

I think Rolex can make YM42 on OF in SS or Ti in future...

I made the same decision due to wrist size…chose the RG and absolutely love it. The glidelock on both of these references truly makes a difference when it comes to OF…if my wrist could handle the WG I would have seriously considered this over the RG, but now I’m not so sure. To me the understated factor was a big advantage for either of these…good luck!

Thanks for the info everyone. I’m terms of the case, does the WG visibly markup or the clasp? Does it wear too heavy or is balance ok?

What’s the view on supply of this in the UK - easier or harder than Rose Gold? I assume easier than most/all SS?

Just wanted to test the water with you all before visiting my AD.

I'd try one on if they made it in steel.

The shiny parts develop a light brushed patina quickly... but it looks good. WG is way harder than rose gold in USA. I've turned down 2 configs of RG while waiting for WG. Full bracelet WG is easier than oysterflex (in Daytona for what it's worth).

On supply can't really add much on the UK situation - but in US I registered interest in WG YM in May 2021 and got the watch early June 2021, 116519 registered interest same time (May2021) and got the watch Dec 2021. Pretty manageable waits, didn't have a history with the AD so overall pretty happy :-)

The clasp picks up minor scratches like most clasp do, and it is a pretty meaty clasp. Also against the black oysterflex it stands out more unlike a regular bracelet so maybe its easier to notice the scratches. Haven't really noticed anything on the case.

The YM42 does wear heavy IMO, you definitely know you have it on, I tend to wear mine a little loose as well so it does 'wobble' about a little but its not a complaint as I mentioned in my earlier post it edges out my 116519 in terms of preference for how it wears and looks

The size of the easy link is equivalent to a notch of glidelock. If you find your setting, the easy link is enough and is even preferable because you have your two settings already configured (small wrist in the cold and vasodilatation) where you have to fight with the glidelock.

I have one and love it. It has a nice weight to it but is still very well balanced. The glidelock is amazing obviously and a real bonus. The Oysterflex is probably one of the comfiest straps available. I honestly cannot fault it at all. As to availability, I wouldn't have a clue. I got mine very quickly but that was back in 2019.

Right now YM42 keeps calling my name. I went to a local grey to check it out and feel it on my wrist. It is superb. My wrist is 7.5" and it sits on there like a dream. The OF is so soft and supple it feels like a velvet glove on the wrist. Those little wings underneath allowing the skin to breathe has a very positive effect on the way the watch wears. The case is what I think is a perfect size; really couldn't find a fault in it. The smooth bezel action is a nice change from the common clicks from subs and other divers. It feels like a cross between the sub and gmt bezel rotation if you're curious. In my perfect situation it would have a full gold bracelet and one can dream.

I thought about consolidating part of my collection to acquire it soon except I have so many great watches that I do not want to part with them. Part of me thinks I'd wear this the majority of the time so why keep the others in that case anyway? I suppose I still need to figure it out. If my number comes up at the AD I'll pick it up and figure out what to do after that. For now I will take my time and let it unfold the way it will.

Seen that one and the 40 RG model in person. To me the RG wins out. Feels more special and the 42 just looks big for some reason (and I tend to like big watches)
