Not another Grandpas watch thread but maybe?

While cleaning out the remainder of my grandmas house with one of my uncles today. He realized I wear a Rolex. This got us talking about watches and he told me he inherited a Franck Muller from a buddy of his. This buddy had quite an estate, was single and worked for a major network covering international sporting events. He said he talked to someone and they said they don’t come with a blue box, which seems correct as I cant find the same box or the exact dial, case and crown of this watch. I know nothing of Franck Muller watches though, so I bring it here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looks legit to me. The dial is usually a giveaway. Sadly FM have lost their way, but I’ve always liked them and I’m on my 3rd one now. Simple eta movement in that one I think. The 2852 model is pretty small nowadays.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Looks like you’re the leading expert about them on TRF!!

Mods, did this get moved to watch out because I questioned its legitimacy or one of you have? I thought “watch out” was for threads when a watch has been deemed illegitimate.

Thanks.

Cool man, no reason to be sorry. I appreciate your input. I’m curious why you say it’s fake yet have no posts I could see about FM, yet a guy that’s owned three of them says the opposite. Please expand on your reasoning, I am relaying the responses to my uncle and would like to personally know if I ever decide to buy one.

Odd that the watch would be engraved “master of complications” and yet be time only

True. I thought that may have just been a trademark of FM per se.

It was his trademark and ultimately his downfall as most watches weren’t highly complicated asmost used eta and quartz movements.

Hey Joel, I agree with Eric on this, besides he is an legit expert. I'd say the dial writing, caseback engraving, and caseback fit would be a start for me. I'm also having trouble finding that exact dial anywhere. Also having a hard time finding the engraving on the back in the order it is on your uncles.

Cool, thanks man. I wasn’t trying to demean his expertise, I hope it didn’t come out like that. I noticed that calling out illegitimate watches is pretty much his MO, I just didn’t see any posts that regarded FM. The other guy said he has had 3 of them and the opinions conflicted. Thanks for the clarification, I told my uncle to take it to a local grey dealer in his area and see what they’d give him for it. I had my suspicions it was not legitimate as I couldn’t find that exact dial in my search either.

I appreciate all of the help gentlemen, my apologies if any of my comments came off as offending.

I didn't think you were, and it did not come off like that.

The visible epoxy around the crystal, and the sloppy screw holes on the case back are dead giveaways

Looking on a bigger screen I think sadly you may be correct. OP my first thoughts appear to be wrong.

If Eric says it's fake, then it's fake.
