About to purchase 16610 L serial 1989. Any red flags?

Hi TRF experts!

I need your input on this model based on pictures if there are any red flags? It is a birth year watch and opportunity came along. However i am new to neo vintage/older watches and would like to know if there is anything that stands out or will have issues later on.. was is sold via a reputable seller in another forum. However it was initially bought at a brick and mortar store so no idea if all is legit.

Box only no papers


The hands seem to be replacement? Are those rolex replacement or aftermarket?

Will there be any issue if i send to RSC? Can hands be replaced to match the dial patina?

Your overall input on watch? Is it overpolished or should it be polished again?

Definitely needs a polish. Im also not the one to buy a watch that needs an immediate work. I would pass. Hardly any stretch in the bracelet considering how worn it is which is interesting.

Do you recommend to polish or to just keep wearing it out? It seems the debate that i keep reading is aficianados dont ever want a watch to be polished? Whats the take on neovintage watches?

Do better. Rode rough out down hard. Hands would bug me. This watch tells someone else’s story.

It’s purely up to you. If the previous scratches bother you then get it polished, knowing it won’t have the same integrity (used lightly) that it does now. It looks polished a few times already. Hands are falling apart and don’t match so I’d assume they’re replaced. Bracelet has very little stretch which is odd, does the bracelet code match the watch?

If you’re buying a watch and just trying to attain a Rolex to wear and beat the hell out of then I say it’s not terrible, depending on price. If you’re looking for something to stick in the safe, this isn’t the one.

How much are they asking?

There are many 16610s out there. Finding a better example will be easy especially one with matching hands & dial.

Also the lume on the hands appears to be cracking and ready to fall out.

Traded a datejust 36 126234 for it and got some cash to top it off as well!

I think for the price (basically around 9-9.5k). Might have overpaid a bit i suppose and was too attached to the “birth year” factor!
