I hope there is a 5196 replacement that is in the same size range as before or even smaller (yes I know unlikely) vs 6119 which is getting too big as a time only dress watch for me. Also, I'm surprised the 5230's are being discontinued after just 5years.

It's confusing - so both the 5230g and 5320g?
You'd have to call the 5320 a bit of a flop. Selling for less than MSRP on chrono two four - It's weird they get the design on the traditional mega pieces right so often - but their bread and butter "mid range" 100K is such a mess. They're going to keep the 5327 around with it's asymmetrical day printing? And a 5740 is going to wear smaller and more elegantly than many of the dress watches and they wonder why the dress watches are available and the aqua/naut are not? |

The 5196 was wearing larger than I wanted for a simple dress piece on my smallish 6.6 inch wrist. At the time I went 3998P instead and am still happy years later. Not interested in another 39mm Calatrava like 5227 or 6119. I am afraid though that they will use the new movement of the 6119 in any 5196 successor which will automatically result in a large watch. Curious as to what they will do on the WT front. The 5230 were sitting for ages in the shop window of my AD. I never liked the grey guilloche. Apart from that it is a pretty watch in my eyes. Maybe they'll just mix up the metals and dial color. |

I always regret not getting the 3998 when it is available at AD. To me it is the perfect daily watch. 5196 is still a tad big for me especially the dial is so clean. Those year I chased “large” watches but I always have a soft spot for 3998. “One day it will be mine, oh yes” - wayne Campbell - Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Maybe they will start adding details like these... Which would be interesting to have Calatravas as pure dress watches but also others as more daily ones (a little like the retired 5196P). |

I swear, nothing makes sense in this world anymore.
The 5990/1A is being discontinued, so list prices on Chrono24 have reached $400,000 and up. But, as a result, the 5990/1R which was released just last year, went from being listed at an absurd $385,000 to over $500,000 now. Who's buying at these prices? |

Some models (example 5270p) are still on the site. Others are gone. Is the site still being updated or something else?

Yes but those <200K ones are on demand so no stock. The higher priced ones are in stock.

Pro tip don't buy a 5270P for 300k. It would be hard for them not to improve the PCC line going forward. These were 160k a month ago.

There is a impact from crypto here...
During a recent family lunch, one of my relatives working in a bank (please allow me not to be too specific) in a country not known for being the strictest with money origin (not in Europe, not in Americas) gave me the exemple of a prospect who had almost $100mio from crypto. All the banks refused him. And this is the case in many countries because of anti-laundering policies and/or local regulation So what can they do? Continue with the latest pump and dump scam (ie NFT) and/or find people/companies accepting bitcoins (watches, art, jewelry, etc). If you follow some watch channels on youtube, you will see these crazy deals (especially with RM and Patek)... They are not a lot of guys but enough to imbalance temporarily the watch market. I can imagine that even the small Joe in his 20s who made quickly 100k undeclared and want to convert it back has now issues (between taxes and bank policies)... Easiest solution, and conveniently hard to track by irs, is to buy watches, pokemon cards, art, etc. Crazy world... NB: Excess liquidity, boredom during lockdowns (delta, omicron), international travelling limitations, etc are also expected causes but not at this level of... non-sense. |

If you go on resale prices I agree the 5230 is a flop but I love the history and the watch so secured one in December, I’m now glad I did, the watch is for my 50th and I turned down the 5164r and Daytona oyterflex meteorite to make way for it, buy what you love and my own collection reflects that. Resale prices don't dictate if a watch is a flop anymore.
Resale prices are *now* dictated by speculative investors, not watch collectors. |
