Looking to buy first PAM..help
Looking to add only one PAM to my current collection which consists of rolex, omega and breitling. Im looking at the Submersible model or luminor marina. Anything to look for specifically, or are some older models better? Thanks
Which one from below? |

The PAM 1392 gets my vote, I was eyeing that at DavidSW, but went for a new 1359. Good luck and have fun with the hunt!

Depends on whether you want another diver. If so, the 682 on the left is a great choice. I've tried it on and loved it
If you want one PAM, however, and your wrists aren't big enough to pull off a 47mm, then I would get a Luminor with a 1950's case that can be worn with multiple straps: that's the 1312 on the right. This is the first PAM I picked up and is the one I've kept and wear several times/week. PAM's new CEO --during a recent interview -- said the 1312 is 'the quintessential Panerai" (I'm guessing he meant quintessential modern panerai). |

I move into and out of Panerai watches and currently I am out. The resale is dismal and the brand itself appears to have lost a lot of its fans with what I would say are crazy prices and similar designs. Do yourself a favor and buy preowned and complete.

Preowned from sellers like DSW is a great way to go. Watches are in excellent condition and you wont take a loss if you decide to sell or trade. I have had many models over the last 12 years. 233 is a special 44 mm model. Consider a 44 mm Luminor like a 005, 111, 112 etc 312 is a great option. Make sure you try a few models on first. The 372 is a classic but a 47mm Panerai can ne big in some wrists.

Welcome to the madness! First, I would say, take your time and research the various cases, as well as what came before and what is available now....there are many differences.
As a general comment, unless you absolutely "need" a bracelet, I would not pay the premium for a bracelet on a Panerai, as an integral part of the experience of wearing Panerais is straps...lots and lots of straps. :-) Of the 3 you mentioned, I personally like the 682 the best, but I'm not sure I would choose that as my only PAM. My issue with the 1312 (or 1392?) that posted is that I am not a fan of the blue hand on non-submersibles...I think they aren't as flexible with leather straps (not as much of an issue with subs like the 682, as I think one tends to wear those more on rubber). Otherwise, Joe gives some good advice above. |

I went through a very similar scenario recently - mainly a Rolex guy with a couple of others sprinkled here and there but I had become Panerai-curious. I looked at all the same ones you are considering and others...
At the end of the day, I loved the diver but it just seemed that the Luminor series represented more of the Panerai experience that I was looking for. It's a very classic and unique look. Plus, I already had a few watches that are of the "diver" ilk so something different was a refreshing change. I went with the 1359 just because it spoke to me but I really like the Luminors you have posted above as well. I have to say that the quick change strap changing mechanism is fantastic and has made it really fun and easy to change straps. So, if I go farther into the Panerai world (and I expect to) I'll probably look at the divers, but for my first I wanted it to be that style that I associate with Panerai... yes I know they have a significant diving history but the Luminor look is what I picture in my head when I think "Panerai". Your mileage may vary as they say.... ;-) |

My suggestion will be to try and familiarize yourself with the line up of Panerais, find the case shape and size that's comfortable for your wrist

I only have one PAM, and after going back and forth between a few different models, I settled on the 1312. Can’t be happier.

Are these still ETA base movements? Or has panerai done any in house stuff yet? |

It’s now an in-house movement for the PAM1312. 72 hours power reserve and because of the newer movement, a slightly slimmer case.

I think the current subs (682 and 1305) have in house movt like 1312 (P9010)
I think 1024 still use the modified outsourced movt as it still use the OP XXX designation instead of P + latin numerals |

312 is really nice. Have you consider any of base models as 000 or 112 . They could compliment your current collection, which may have watches with date and second hand.
I have Rolex, Omega and others in my box and wear them regularly but base Panerai always brings smile on my face. It has cool factor |
