If I were in your situation, I'd see which Platona I like better choose that one for now. Then start looking a Patek, AP and Platinum DD.
If none of those work for you, then I'd go back for the previous Platona you left behind.

I really thought they looked different enough.

Finally, I don't flip watches so these would be keepers so I am not worried about losing money selling them on the secondary market.

I know I could get a Platona and DD40 in platinum or maybe a Platona and a Patek ....but I really prefer Rolex sports watches above all others...so I wanted everyone's thoughts.

Thanks.
Why don't you keep one at your main house and then the other at one of your vacation homes?

I would hate to be in a predicimant like that lol. I’d get the brown subdial, 1 of each 116500ln and maybe something completely different with the change.

I'm not saying don't do it, but I would take it slowly. Pick the one I liked the best and start with that. I think in time you'll know if your pick doesn't fill the void.

And I agree the DD40 is sportier than you think. A collection of a WG sub, BLRO, Platona, and a platinum DD40...? Totally killer.

As much as I've come to appreciate the nuances of Rolex's, these are too similar in my opinion. I don't think it's a close call either. 30% off a platona, whether you buy one or two seems doable as well.

I have the “base” model and recently saw the baguette model at the AD. It’s very pretty but loses a little of the Daytona look since the subdials are tone-on-tone. That one is much more formal looking to me. I’d get the brown subdial Daytona and the Patek 5170 P for the ultimate platinum chrono two-pack!

OP could get a WG Oysterflex, a 116500 and still have change left over for a Hulk or BLNR instead of the second Platona. I know what I would choose in this situation.

Platinum DD40 is also a really nice option.

I think it is too similar. If I were you, I will get the platona with diamond and DD40 pt with diamond dial and bezel.

I would absolutely get 2, 3, or 4 of the same model with different trim packages. Lots of people have multiple DD’s and Subs. Take the finances out of it, it’s a no brainer.

How come I feel like I've been trolled. I like the idea of owning both Platonas; you should definitely do it.

Too similar imo. Get the one you like most and see what Basel has to offer before making the decision on the 2nd one.

I really don't think you should get both. Like others have said, a day date 40 would be a wonderful addition to your collection instead

Too similar, though dials are different. Buy the one with diamond markers and get brown-subdial dial as a separate one.

Spot on ... take it slow !!!
Sometimes we think we want or need certain things
only to find out it was a temporary fix and it doesn’t
really make us happy in the long run .
Decide which one you like best get it and sit patiently.
I know it’s tough when you want something NOW!!!
Better to make a sound and wise decision from the start than
jump the gun and be with heavy heart !!!

If it were me I would choose one, sell the 116520 and if I had that much money to spend on two identical watches, I would go looking for something from Patek, Lange or JLC.

My guess is the "30% off deal" is somewhat driving the question. Otherwise, it makes more sense to buy the one you like the most and then see if you really want a similar one.

I also assume the OP is not trolling, was just joking about moving in with parents and/or selling vaca homes.
