Aquanaut 5167, amazing timekeeping

Four days after receiving from Takuya (ThahnDo is great) and cutting the rubber strap (very easy) it hasn’t gained or lost a second. I wasn’t expecting that. Very pleased.

It is by far the most accurate mechanical watch I've owned. Was also surprised.

Super cool congrats.

I had this a few years ago, only could not handle the varying patina between the lume on the hands and the hour markers. I think they have changed that these days.....

Indeed. By default the hands and lume index were generally always a shade off (even with the 5066/5065).
The 5167 has switched from greenish lume to now white in around late 2018, just like it is on the 5164.

Thanks for the nice comments. I had an Aquanaut (first version I imagine) that is somewhere on the bottom of Lake Malawi after getting torn off my wrist by the rigging on a sailboat (I'm surely not a skilled sailor). Luckily leaving my hand intact - thank you rubber strap.

I think there might be a few commenters who’d like to know exactly where you were rigging that sailboat on Lake Malawi.

It may take a while to find and doubt the seals held that long (!), but we were off Senga Bay, Malawi about 10KM from shore. I would not claim any salvage rights in any case !!

Best, Frank

Just works like most watches with screw in crown; after release crown first detent to wind, second for quick set date and third to set time (no stopping time as on some other watches). I understand some people stop the time by reversing direction a bit but not sure this is a good idea.

Great watch. I have a 5711 but believe this will get more wrist time. If you get one and size the strap, cut just a bit off at a time since there is no going back and center the clasp by cutting more off one side as needed.

Frank

That's a tragedy for a watch lover! Did you ever try to retrieve the watch in anyway?

It will be romantic if it appears again 1 day!
