Incoming! Grand Seiko SBGW253
My last incoming for a while (I hope), and perhaps my favourite of my recent acquisitions (although it's close!). While I like "dressier" watches, I've never really fallen in love with one quite like I have this watch. I already own five Grand Seikos, and thought I was done (I've heard that before), but I didn't own a more traditional piece like this, nor did I have a manual wind GS (I wish they did them more often - my one real criticism of GS watches is that they tend to be quite thick, although they do wear better than you might think, and obviously the automatic rotor contributes to this thickness).
As many will know, the SBGW253 is a "recreation" of the very first GS from 1960, in a limited edition of 1960 pieces (so not very limited then!). I thought I'd missed out on this, with it being out for the best part of a year, but luckily (or unluckily if you're my wife) Jura watches had one left, and I was able to use one of their holiday sale codes to get a decent discount. It's larger than the original, at 38mm, which normally I'd be a bit wary of, but actually I think it works really well, on my seven and a quarter inch wrist at least (and because it's not ultra thin, at 11mm, the proportions work well too). It's a lovely elegant piece, with fantastic visibility due to the bright white dial (which isn't as "creamy" as it looks in some of my pictures which were taken in warm evening sunlight) and highly polished hands and indices. Something about the Zaratsu polishing on this watch in particular is even more appealing than on my other GSs - the steel appears is exceptionally bright and "silvery", really popping in the light. I also feel it can be worn quite flexibly, having no problems wearing it with jeans - perhaps I'm just getting too old though! The movement performs very well so far (+1 second per day), and winds very nicely (although I do find the crown a little small, or at least lacking in grip). |

That is a stunning watch, one in which I almost sold my YM to acquire. While I'm glad I didn't, I would still love to add that piece to my collection.
You are a lucky man. Wear it in good health.

Andy, I love it. I'm also a big fan of GS (and Seiko generally) and would love to add this at some point. I've yet to see it in person in Steel, I've seen the precious metals but those are out of range.

Well done. Congrats!
This is the watch I am looking for. The 38mm size is good for my small wrist. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a date. |

That's a beauty. I have a Cocktail Time on the way - the old model that has been discontinued. My dad is "borrowing" my 007. Love me some Seiko.

hhhhhmmmm.....yeah. That's not too shabby at all.....
I'm starting to look at watches on leather bands, (instead of Natos or bracelets), I think I might be getting older too... Congrats ! |

Stunning pics Andy. And just as I was getting over your SOTC the other day! I’ll add this as a favourite together with the AP and the BLRO!

That's a great-looking watch. I'll be on the lookout for JDM GS and other Seikos when I'm in Japan next week.

Awesome! I am currently looking to add a GS to the collection as well but the selection and prices where I am are quite...horrid.
