Needs some help finding out what this Rolex is ?

Guys,

This watch was given to my good friend after his grandfather passed away. The watch had sat un-worn in his drawer since he retired.

The watch needs winding and apart from this I have been unable to find out more, so I am calling on you to fill in the gaps

Looks to be a Oyster Perpetual, remove the bracelet and tell us the model number (12:00 position) and the serial number (6:00 position) between the lugs.

there is quite a range of time that the "precision's" were manufactured, someone with more knowledge then me might be able to give you a date based on a better picture of the dial. Have you removed the bracelet to check for model number and serial number inbetween the lugs?

Interesting watch....

I would like to see the markings and movement..

Likely it is a wind-up model and not a perpetual.. I suspect a refinished dial at some poinT..

Larry, were the Precisions a manual wind? Maybe I am getting this confused with the AK?

No... Precision was just a grade of movement..

However, when they went to Perpetuals, they almost always put it on the dial........ In other words, it should say "Oyster Perpetual" rather than just "Oyster".

Looking at the font, it is quite heavy, extremely white for the age, and so we have a conundrum here.....

To sort this all out, we need the model number and a look at the movement to see if it is proper for the era....

I forgot to say that I suspect it to be a 6426 from the mid 60's

Looks like a 6426, manual (not automatic) watch. I recently purchased a silver faced, late 60's model, and really love it! One of my favorite watches right now, love how it rides my wrist (34mm)with the oyster bracelet . Usually see these going for around $700.00-$800.00. I've noticed the font on these 6426's really stand out compared to other models. Wonder if that was done on purpose?

Well worth it for a nice vintage.

The watch is a manual wind, I'm seeing my pal at the weekend so will find out the model number
