Just curious if anyone here has ever seen one in action. If so where/who?
Can anyone here tell me why they are so expensive?

Well, they do have a pretty cool TV commercial.

Checked out some at the AP Botique in KL. Nice, but too expensive for me.

Most either love or hate them. By most true WIS they are considered one of the big 3.

Expense is due to complicated movements, precious metals, brand name recognition and marketing. Alot on the last two, just like all other luxury brands.

I love the rubber clad ROO line, tis a grail for me.

I think they're better than Rolex in some ways, but then again they are trying to do different things.

Like Daren said you just love them or you don't,undoubtedly excellent movements and up there with the best.But myself don't like there style of watches especially the RO.

The regular Royal Oak would be decent if they made it with at least 100meter water resistance.

Can't stand the Rolyal Oaks, but some of their dress watches are very nice indeed.

One of our members (who hasn't posted in ages) used to be a huge Royal Oak fan....

Adding photos.....Thomas at the GTG last fall - haven't seen him in a while.

His Royal Oak on my wrist - had to try it, but just not for me style wise....

I was the highest bidder on a Millennary 18ct 38mm dress watch.

It was an absolute bargain, so much so that the seller feigned illness to ignore my emails to proceed with payment etc.

I didn't get the watch in the end. It was a beauty though.

I have seen a Royal Oak here in Seattle, but other than this one sighting, the only ones I have seen have been in posts on various fora.

That said, they make a very nice watch. Excellent finishing that's on par with the very best. They are not afraid of being "stylish" and avant garde when it comes to design and the comments you read from most people after they buy their first one is something like "I can't stop looking at it." Most people become AP fans and buy another--which is the strongest recommendation of all.

Lately too, they have been innovating with silicon and escapements and thye have come up with some pretty interesting solutions in this regard, so they are right up there with research as well. Naturally they are expensive and on the Royal Oak line, the bezels scratch pretty easily. In fact, I looked at buying some used ones at one time and I think nearly every RO the jeweler had at that point had scratches on the bezel. I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for in a watch/brand.
