I dunno man. I think its a cool watch, and totally looks how it was intended to be used. (if that makes sense lol)
I wish they had a similar looking option for the sub. I would love a clean stainless white faced sub. |

It's very simple. Take a replacement Rolex crystal and soak it in acetone for a couple of days. You can then flick the Cyclops off with your thumbnail. Have a competent watchmaker swap the crystals out and pressure test the watch. Store the original crystal away should you ever want to restore the watch to its original condition.
The black dial/white markers are no longer obstructed, the dial is more symmetrical, and the date is visible from more angles. Fr. John† Last edited by Tools; 19 January 2020 at 01:03 PM.. Reason: corrupted iimage |

I don't mind the Exp II, but IMHO the bezel is a little "cheaper" looking than the other models and that may be why it's not as popular.

I have worn the white II for over 10 years now. I LOVE it and I have owned maybe 25 other Rollies. I would like to buy the newer model with a white dial and the engraved serial number - so if anyone wants to sell a WHITE dial model like this PM me. I am looking for a TT YM w/white as an additional piece for long term hold/wear. I'm not ready to shell out the duckies for the 18k YM w/MOP/ruby dial but I saw one on ebay for $17K. That's about as good of a deal as I have seen.

Bob,
that 1655 is stunning, its my grail for sure but unless I win the lottery it will remain an unattainable grail

I am private pilot and often need to know the GMT time to file flight plans etc.
The explorer is very practical, as GMT does not change and the time is clearly readable even without reading glasses |

I travel to Beijing , Japan and Korea a lot and I ask Rolex Dealers there what's their most popular rolex watch they sell , guess what , everybody said it's the Expy II (black) because the Asian have a small wrist and it fits them perfectly and looks good too..I agree!

While rolex have used cave diving as an advertisment feature for the Exp II in the past I have often thought the watch would suit arctic / antarctic daylight conditions with perpetual day / night. Now if Rolex gave a few to some polar expeditions it would quickly have created its own legacy.

Love this thread, I might be getting a white faced explorer 2 as a gift. If everything goes well, I will post some pics.

Well, I don't spend any time exploring caves, that's for sure, but if Rolex ever made an everyday work watch for whatever you do, this is it. It's rough & tough, with just enough elegance for me. If needed, it's fairly easy to touch up with a little Scotchbrite, & Cape Cod. I have more expensive watches, but I don't want to wear them every day.
