Birth Year Sub 16610

Hi Everyone,

I found a birth year 16610 at a fair price from a reputable dealer in LA. The ad says “recently polished” and I know polishing can erode the original metal. I’ve never held a 16610 in person. Are there any tips for spotting an over polished watch?

Thanks!

If it is indeed a reputable dealer, you are halfway home.

It is very difficult to find any 20 or 30+ year old Rolex watch that has not been refinished at some point in it's life.

A reputable dealer would likely have a reputable staff that does their work.

I attached some pictures from the link. I tried to post the link but my post count isn't quite high enough yet.

Thanks,

Two of those photos are not of a 16610, and none of them look to have been recently polished. Assuming the last one is the watch you are interested in, it looks like an average example at first glance. Not unpolished, not terribly over-polished. Post more photos of the actual watch (not a Sea-Dweller) for better info. It is helpful to see the lugs from an angle and the side.
